Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Attraction Suddenly Covered at Disney World

The scaffolding surrounding the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios has expanded again. The Hollywood Tower Hotel facade is now more covered than at any point since the exterior refurbishment began this summer.

On Wednesday, WDWNT reported that construction equipment had extended across the left side of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror building, past the drop shaft, in the latest phase of a project that has been methodically working its way around the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade since early July. The outlet shared a photo of the building's current state, showing scaffolding wrapping around a significant portion of its front face.

Despite the expanding construction footprint, the scaffolding still doesn't obstruct the view from the attraction's elevator windows during the drop sequence. Guests riding the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror can still see out over Disney's Hollywood Studios when the doors open.

How This Project Has Evolved

The exterior work on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has been building in stages since the spring. A queue refurbishment wrapped up in May, after which decorative flags above the gift shop were removed, and scrim was installed across several facade elements — the first visible signs that something larger was in the works. Scaffolding appeared above the gift shop in early July and has been expanding ever since, moving around the right side of the building and up the front facade before reaching the left side this week.

In areas where scaffolding was installed earliest, the results of the repainting work are already visible. Sections of the Hollywood Tower Hotel now display fresher, brighter pink paint that hasn't yet received the intentionally aged and distressed treatment the building is known for. That weathered finish is presumably applied as a later step in the process.

Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any upcoming closure for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and the attraction remains open throughout the exterior work.
