Disney World Confirms New Look for 32-Year-Old Tower of Terror Ride

Guests walking past Disney's Hollywood Studios are getting less and less of a glimpse at one of the park's most iconic silhouettes, as the ongoing refurbishment of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror reaches its most intensive stage yet.

A Refurbishment Months in the Making

Work on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror first became visible back in early May, when Walt Disney World Resort began refurbishing sections of the ride's queue. Once that phase concluded, crews shifted focus to the building itself, wrapping the area above the gift shop in scaffolding and protective scrim.

By early July, that scaffolding had spread from the right side of the structure, curling around the front of the building and climbing toward the Hollywood Tower Hotel sign that towers over Sunset Boulevard. The work appears to center on repainting the facade. Disney Park guests have spotted sections of noticeably brighter pink paint that haven't yet been treated with the attraction's signature weathered, aged look.

Since Disney Fanatic's previous check-in on the project on August 10, the scaffolding has expanded even further, now wrapping around every visible side of the building.

On August 20, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @laughingplace posted four photos capturing just how covered the structure has become, writing:

The photos show the right-side elevator shaft still free of scaffolding, though construction equipment appears to be partially obstructing the windows on the left-side shaft — the ones that open mid-drop for guests riding that portion of the attraction.

Despite all the visible work, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror remains fully operational, and Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any plans to close the ride.

Has this Twilight Zone Tower of Terror construction impacted your recent visit to Disney's Hollywood Studios? Disney Fanatic would love to hear from you in the comments!
