Universal Studios Hollywood guests can officially start marking their calendars.
One of the park's biggest projects has been taking shape in plain sight, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to watch its sprawling coaster track rise across the property. Universal has revealed plenty about what riders can expect, from extreme speeds to vehicles that rotate as they race through the course.
What guests didn't have was an official opening date.
That's no longer the case. Universal has confirmed when Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will begin welcoming the public, bringing a completely different kind of Fast & Furious experience to the Hollywood theme park.
Universal Is Going Bigger With This One
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift puts speed and drifting at the center of the attraction.
The outdoor coaster will reach 72 mph, making it the fastest roller coaster in the Universal Destinations & Experiences portfolio.
Its vehicles can rotate 360 degrees while traveling along approximately 4,100 feet of track, creating the sensation of drifting through the course.
Guests will experience four launches, forces up to 3.6 Gs, an inverted dive loop, twisted pretzel loop, inverted stall, and other elements.
The track also runs over and under portions of the Starway escalators that connect the Upper and Lower Lots. Universal has also incorporated sound-reduction technology into the track.
Fortunately, guests won't have to wait much longer to experience it.
Universal Finally Sets the Date
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift officially opens at Universal Studios Hollywood on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
Guests will enter the attraction on the Upper Lot through a large red brick, garage-inspired structure. Two stationary replica cars positioned outside will serve as photo opportunities before riders continue into the queue.
The experience will then introduce more elements from the Fast & Furious franchise.
Universal has filled the queue with recreated props and details inspired by the Fast Saga movies. A section of coaster track passes through a transparent enclosure in the queue, allowing guests to watch trains race past as they wait.
Four different cars inspired the coaster's ride vehicles: the Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R, and Toyota Supra.
Before climbing aboard, however, guests will need to secure their belongings.
Riders Will Have to Leave Loose Items Behind
Universal will require riders to use lockers for loose belongings before riding Hollywood Drift.
That includes items such as cell phones, wallets, merchandise, and other objects that could come loose during the experience. Guests will also go through scanners before boarding to ensure their belongings have been properly stored.
It's a stricter process, but Hollywood Drift isn't exactly a slow-moving attraction.
Between its 72-mph maximum speed, four launches, inversions, and rotating vehicles, Universal has plenty of reasons to keep loose objects away from the coaster.
Hollywood guests will get the first opportunity to experience this new direction for Fast & Furious, but Orlando isn't far behind.
Another Hollywood Drift Is Already Taking Shape
Universal Studios Florida will receive its own Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster in 2027.
Universal hasn't announced an exact opening date yet, and the Florida coaster will feature a different layout.
One major element will be a vertical spike stretching nearly 17 stories into the air near Universal CityWalk. Like its Hollywood counterpart, the Orlando attraction will feature vehicles capable of rotating 360 degrees to create the drifting sensation.
Construction is already moving forward, adding another major project to Universal Orlando Resort following the May 2025 debut of Epic Universe.
Meanwhile, the Fast & Furious attraction that previously represented the franchise at Universal's parks has reached the end of its run.
Supercharged Is Gone on Both Coasts
Fast & Furious: Supercharged has permanently closed at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Florida.
The Hollywood version operated as part of the Studio Tour until its permanent closure in 2025. Orlando's standalone attraction remained around longer, but ultimately gave its final rides on August 16, 2026. Universal had originally expected the Florida attraction to remain until 2027 before accelerating that timeline.
Neither of the former Supercharged locations currently has an announced replacement.
Universal hasn't revealed what will eventually replace the Hollywood Studio Tour experience, nor has it announced what's coming to the former Supercharged space at Universal Studios Florida.
Speculation surrounding Orlando has included Ghostbusters, Twisters, Back to the Future, and other franchises, but Universal hasn't confirmed any of them.
With Hollywood Drift already coming to another part of Universal Studios Florida in 2027, Universal could eventually use the former Supercharged location for an entirely different concept.
Fast & Furious Is Entering Its Next Chapter
The Supercharged era may be finished, but Fast & Furious isn't disappearing from Universal's theme parks.
Instead, Universal is trading the previous experience for a much faster interpretation of the franchise.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift officially begins that next chapter at Universal Studios Hollywood on September 16, with Orlando set to follow in 2027.
