Universal Orlando Resort is turning the 25th anniversary of the first Harry Potter film into a three-park celebration beginning August 1, complete with a collectible Butterbeer mug, themed treats, merchandise, and the return of Hogwarts Always at Islands of Adventure.
It is a limited-time event, not a new land or attraction. Still, its scale illustrates just how thoroughly Harry Potter now runs through Universal Orlando—at the same moment crews are dismantling the remains of the Lost Continent directly beside Hogsmeade.
That timing will undoubtedly keep expansion theories alive. It does not confirm them.
What Universal Orlando Is Offering Beginning August 1
According to Universal Orlando’s official Back to Hogwarts announcement, the resort will commemorate both the fictional return to Hogwarts and “25 Years of Magic,” recognizing 25 years since the first film reached theaters.
The headline collectible is a Harry Potter 25th Anniversary Butterbeer Mug. It comes filled with Butterbeer and will be sold exclusively at Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure while supplies last.
Universal has not listed a price or guaranteed that supplies will survive the entire celebration. Guests traveling specifically for the mug—particularly later in August—should not assume it will still be available upon arrival.
Hogwarts House Ice Lollies offer another park-specific experience. Previously sold in Diagon Alley, the treats are now also available in the Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe. Each represents one of the four houses: peach and strawberry for Gryffindor, pineapple and milk chocolate for Hufflepuff, coconut and matcha for Slytherin, and huckleberry and grape for Ravenclaw.
Universal will also offer a Wizarding World Build-A-Bag collection from Lug. Guests can combine bags, straps, charms, and accessories, while the resort’s second-generation interactive wands remain available throughout all three Wizarding World locations.
Hogwarts Always Returns to Islands of Adventure
At Islands of Adventure, Hogwarts Castle will once again host Hogwarts Always, a nighttime projection show following a year at the school—from arriving aboard the Hogwarts Express to one house claiming the House Cup.
The presentation is an emotional anchor for the event because it returns the celebration to the place where Universal Orlando’s Harry Potter transformation began. Hogsmeade opened in 2010, followed by Diagon Alley in 2014. Epic Universe then introduced the Ministry of Magic in 2025, giving the resort a third distinct Wizarding World.
That growth has created an impressive Harry Potter itinerary, but not necessarily a simple one.
Guests wanting the complete celebration must account for three separate theme parks. The anniversary mug is limited to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure, while the newly expanded Ice Lolly availability reaches Epic Universe. The Hogwarts Express connects Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley only and requires eligible Park-to-Park admission; it does not travel to Epic Universe.
The practical consequence is that Universal can promote one resort-wide Harry Potter celebration, but visitors cannot experience every component with admission to a single park.
Harry Potter’s Growth Meets the Lost Continent’s Demolition
The celebration arrives as Universal continues removing what remains of the Lost Continent. Poseidon’s Fury closed permanently on May 10, 2023, and recent documentation shows demolition advancing around the former attraction.
Other pieces have disappeared as well. The former Sindbad theater has been demolished, the Mystic Fountain area has been walled off, and even guest facilities have closed as construction spreads.
That matters because Universal has followed this playbook before. Part of the original Lost Continent became Hogsmeade, beginning the franchise’s Orlando expansion. The remaining land still borders Hogsmeade, giving the idea of another Harry Potter addition an obvious geographic logic.
A Forbidden Forest attraction could also supply Islands of Adventure with another Potter experience while potentially drawing guests beyond Hogsmeade’s existing pathways. But that is a hypothetical possibility, not a disclosed Universal project.
Universal has not announced Harry Potter, Forbidden Forest, Pokémon, The Legend of Zelda, or any other property as the Lost Continent’s replacement. The ongoing demolition establishes that the original land is disappearing. It does not identify what comes next.
An Anniversary Event, Not an Expansion Announcement
Universal’s continued investment in Harry Potter is difficult to miss. What began with Hogsmeade now reaches Diagon Alley and the Ministry of Magic, where Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry and Le Cirque Arcanus anchor the resort’s newest Wizarding World.
The August celebration reinforces that commitment. It also gives guests something more immediate than construction speculation: a nighttime show, exclusive merchandise, themed food, and a reason to trace Harry Potter’s journey across the resort.
But Universal has drawn a firm line between what guests can experience this summer and what may eventually rise beside Hogsmeade. Until the company names the Lost Continent replacement, the only honest conclusion is also the most tantalizing one: Harry Potter has never occupied more of Universal Orlando, yet the franchise’s next destination remains entirely unconfirmed.
