Central Florida Faces Rare Snow and Freezing Temperatures: Universal and Disney Impacted

In a surprising twist of weather, Florida is experiencing a historic cold snap that has left residents and visitors facing snow and freezing temperatures. Central Florida, typically a haven for warmth and sunshine, has seen record lows that have disrupted daily life and altered plans for many. Snowflakes, an extraordinary sight in the Sunshine State, have blanketed some areas, creating an unprecedented winter wonderland.

Temperatures are forecasted to remain chilly, with highs only reaching 56°F on Friday and dropping to a bone-chilling 36°F at night. Saturday brings slightly warmer conditions, with a high of 63°F and a low of 44°F. These unseasonably cold conditions have resulted in significant changes at popular attractions.

Universal isn’t the only resort grappling with the frigid temperatures. Disney World has also made adjustments, including the temporary closure of Blizzard Beach, its ski-resort-themed water park. Though the irony of Blizzard Beach closing due to actual wintry weather isn’t lost on visitors, the closures highlight the unique challenges Florida’s theme parks face when temperatures drop.

Across both Universal and Disney properties, guests have been spotted bundled up in coats, scarves, and gloves, a stark contrast to the typical vacation attire of shorts and T-shirts. Indoor attractions and heated spaces have become popular refuges for those braving the cold.

State of Emergency Declared in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a State of Emergency for several counties, including areas in Central Florida, in response to the ongoing weather challenges. This declaration ensures that resources are available to address freezing conditions, which could impact transportation, infrastructure, and agriculture.

With icy roads and increased energy demand, as residents crank up heaters, the State of Emergency provides critical support to those affected by the rare weather event.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
