A major shift is coming to Universal Orlando Resort’s daily schedule — and it’s not going to thrill guests who prefer to stretch their park days into the night. Beginning Thursday, August 28, 2025, Universal Studios Florida will roll out dramatically reduced closing times to make room for its flagship fall event, Halloween Horror Nights.

The resort’s primary theme park, which often wraps up summer operations near 9:00 p.m., will see the clock pushed back by several hours for the remainder of the Halloween season:
-
On HHN event nights: gates close to daytime visitors at 5:00 p.m.
-
On non-HHN nights: an earlier-than-usual 7:00 p.m. closing will be in effect for most nights.
For guests who purchased a standard day ticket expecting a full evening of attractions, this amounts to losing two to four hours of park time.
Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe Hold Later Hours — But Don’t Expect Midnight

The neighboring Islands of Adventure theme park will stay open later than Universal Studios Florida during HHN season, with most event dates showing an 8:00 p.m. close. This park does not host Halloween Horror Nights, meaning its later hours are geared toward standard daytime attendance rather than horror fans.
Meanwhile, Epic Universe — Universal Orlando’s newest park located several miles away — will generally maintain a 9:00 p.m. closure for most nights this fall.
Based on previous years, the altered schedule at Universal Studios Florida will likely continue through November 2, 2025, the final night of Halloween Horror Nights.
HHN 2025: Why the Early Closings Are Happening

Halloween Horror Nights is more than just a few haunted houses. It’s a park-wide transformation that demands hours of setup before guests arrive for the separately ticketed nighttime event. The earlier closures give Universal’s crew time to prepare elaborate sets, props, and scare zones across the park.
This year’s HHN lineup is one of the most high-profile in the event’s history. Both coasts will feature:
-
WWE Presents: The Horrors of The Wyatt Sicks — A tribute to late WWE star Bray Wyatt, featuring the notorious Wyatt Sicks faction.
-
Five Nights at Freddy’s — Full-scale animatronics from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop bring the horror video game and movie franchise to life.
-
Terrifier — Step inside Art the Clown’s twisted funhouse, complete with characters and infamous moments from the films.
-
Fallout — Navigate the wasteland of Prime Video’s hit series while avoiding Raiders, Scavengers, and mutant wildlife.
-
Jason Universe — Relive the blood-soaked legacy of Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees.
Orlando-exclusive houses include:
-
El Artista: A Spanish Haunting
-
Hatchet and Chains: Demon Bounty Hunters
-
Dolls: Let’s Play Dead
-
Grave of Flesh
-
Gálkn: Monsters of the North
Add to that four themed scare zones, two “street experiences,” and live entertainment such as Nightmare Fuel: Circus of Decay and Haunt-O-Phonic: A Ghoulish Journey, and it’s clear why the transformation window is non-negotiable.
Shorter Days for Day Guests — Longer Nights for Horror Fans
The early shutdown is a trade-off: less daytime access in exchange for one of the most immersive after-hours events in the theme park industry. For travelers with no interest in HHN — particularly families with younger children — this will mean careful planning is needed to avoid losing valuable ride time.
Park hopping to Islands of Adventure or Epic Universe remains an option, though neither stays open especially late compared to summer norms.
Disney Parks Also Trimming Hours in August
-
Aug. 28, 2025 — Disney’s Animal Kingdom: 5:00 p.m. close (instead of the typical 6:00 p.m.), cutting short Pandora – The World of Avatar’s popular bioluminescent evening views.
-
Aug. 16, 2025 — Disney’s Hollywood Studios: 6:00 p.m. close, canceling the evening’s Fantasmic! performance.
If your trip to Universal Studios Florida falls between late August and early November, you’ll want to double-check park hours before finalizing plans. The earlier closures are unavoidable on HHN nights — and, this year, even some non-event evenings will see reduced time inside the park.
For Halloween Horror Nights devotees, the change is simply the price of admission to one of the country’s most elaborate seasonal events. For everyone else, it’s a reminder that Orlando’s theme parks run on ever-shifting schedules — and that “closing time” can come sooner than you think.
