Universal Temporarily Shuts Down Haunted House After Reported Heart Attack

Halloween Horror Nights 34 has barely hit the halfway point, but it’s already delivered plenty of frights—some planned, others not.

Late last night, buzz began circulating on social media about a medical emergency inside the Jason Universe haunted house at Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights. According to a TikTok video that quickly gained traction, a serious incident caused the attraction to shut down for over half an hour, leaving guests in line confused and concerned.

The TikTok, originally posted by user ML9ine, stated:

“They literally stopped the line for like 30-35 minutes #halloweenhorrornightsorlando #halloweenhorrornights #jason #fridaythe13 #universalstudios”

While the short video didn’t show the incident itself, it was enough to send speculation spiraling in the comment section. Several attendees claimed they had seen ambulances on-site, while others suggested the delay was due to a guest experiencing a cardiac event inside the house.

But almost immediately, contradictory claims began to appear.

Conflicting Eyewitness Accounts

Within the comments, one user wrote:

“Was just there less than 2 hours ago saw the ambulance didn’t know what happened .. I pray the person made it!!!”

Another added:

“Was that last night cause I saw an ambulance leaving while in line.”

Despite this, self-identified Universal team members and house operations staff chimed in to provide what they claimed were more accurate details:

“They did not have a heart attack. I work the house as a house op. Somebody hit their head on the second part of the Jason gauntlet hallway and passed out. Not a heart attack.”

A different comment added:

“I heard from a TM they just passed out. No cardiac arrest.”

With no official confirmation from Universal Orlando Resort as of this writing, we’re left with a mix of firsthand observations, secondhand staff input, and guest speculation. What’s consistent is that an incident did occur, it triggered a noticeable pause in operations, and medical services responded.

Inside the Jason Universe House: What Makes It So Extreme?

To understand why this incident has drawn so much attention, it helps to look at the house in question.

Jason Universe is one of the marquee attractions at HHN34 and possibly the most high-octane. Guests are thrust into a timeline-bending homage to the Friday the 13th franchise, where multiple variations of Jason Voorhees attack from all sides.

From the moment guests step into the woods of Camp Crystal Lake, they’re met with near-constant scares. One particularly disorienting sequence has guests walk through a massive replica of Jason’s hockey mask, entering a dark tunnel filled with fog, sound effects, and strobes that create near-zero visibility.

It’s here, in this section described by fans as “claustrophobic” and “overwhelming,” that the alleged incident took place.

Whether it was a loss of balance, panic attack, or medical episode, many familiar with the house agree: it’s not a stretch to think the Jason gauntlet section could lead to real disorientation, especially for guests with health sensitivities.

Real Emergencies in Artificial Nightmares

Theme park fans know that Halloween Horror Nights excels at simulating terror—but real emergencies are part of operating any high-capacity event. Universal enforces strict safety measures, with paramedics stationed nearby and team members trained to respond quickly to health incidents.

Still, events like this, even when resolved efficiently, often stir fear not connected to the fictional scares. What begins as a frightening attraction can quickly cross into unsettling real-world territory when emergency services are involved.

That boundary was clearly felt last night.

As one commenter posted:

“They shut the whole line down. People were freaking out. Didn’t know if it was a guest or a scareactor. Everyone was just standing around.”

And with rumors of undercover police monitoring HHN crowds this year, the event already has an added layer of unease for some attendees. Whether due to real threats or overblown stories, the fog-filled environment at HHN 34 can quickly shift from theatrical to tense.

Halloween Horror Nights 34: The Season So Far

Now well into its 2025 run, Halloween Horror Nights has once again positioned itself as the gold standard for theme park horror events. This year’s lineup includes 10 haunted houses, several of which are based on major horror properties:

  • The Terrifier, based on the gory cult film series

  • Fallout, a faithful recreation of the post-nuclear franchise

  • Jason Universe, a highlight for slasher fans

  • Hatchet and Chains, Dolls: Let’s Play Dead, and others showcasing original Universal content

The Jason Universe house is often mentioned alongside Terrifier as the most physically and mentally intense experience of the event. Guests report high adrenaline, nonstop scares, and some genuinely claustrophobic design elements that push boundaries without crossing into unsafe territory—usually.

So What Really Happened?

At this point, the most consistent account seems to be that a guest passed out after hitting their head, potentially due to disorientation inside the Jason Universe attraction. There’s no confirmed indication of a heart attack or seizure, though both have been floated on TikTok and Reddit.

Until Universal issues a statement—or confirms the incident through internal channels—we may not get the full picture. But based on what we know, the incident was likely resolved quickly, with safety personnel clearing the scene after ensuring the guest received appropriate care.

It’s a reminder that while Halloween Horror Nights is designed for scares, guests still need to know their limits, stay hydrated, and treat these attractions with the same respect as any high-energy experience.
