Universal’s New ‘Jurassic Park’ Experience Will Feature Thrilling Vehicle Chase

For decades, Universal Studios has offered guests a variety of Jurassic Park attractions—river rides, raptor encounters, and high-speed coasters. But one element from the original 1993 film has never translated into a physical experience: a proper vehicle encounter.

Whether it’s the T-Rex attack sequence where Lex (Ariana Richards) and Tim (Joe Mazzello) are trapped inside a jeep, or the chase scene with Robert Muldoon (Bob Peck), Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), the original 1993 film is known for pitting characters against dinosaurs with nothing more than a vehicle between them.

But Universal Studios has never really attempted anything similar in a ride or walk-through—unless of course you count the signature log-flume attractions. Sure, visitors can plunge down Jurassic Park River Adventure or race past dinosaurs on VelociCoaster, but being inside a jeep while dinosaurs close in has remained out of reach.

That gap is what makes a tiny detail in the behind-the-scenes video for the upcoming first-person action-adventure video game “Jurassic Park: Survival” so notable. A behind-the-scenes featurette released in the summer offered a clear overview of Saber Interactive and Universal’s push to re-create Isla Nublar with production-level precision.

Developers walked through their use of original film archives, while Universal representatives talk about maintaining continuity across locations and props. Viewers also saw early gameplay, cutscenes, dinosaur models, environments, and performance footage from actress Payal Mistry, who portrays Dr. Maya Joshi, the game’s protagonist.

But one of the most intriguing moments isn’t highlighted by the team. In a boardroom scene, a storyboard depicting a jeep being overtaken by a herd of Gallimimus, with Maya apparently trapped inside as the animals stomp over the vehicle, can be seen.

The shot is easy to miss, but it’s clear that the game will include a full vehicle sequence, something the franchise has largely left untouched outside the film itself.

For franchise fans who always wanted the theme-park version of that 1993 chase, “Jurassic Park: Survival” will finally offer the closest thing to climbing into the frame.

The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
