Walt Disney World Launches 2027 runDisney Registration With Sellout Warning

The countdown is over for runners hoping to participate in Disney's next Springtime Surprise Weekend.

General registration officially opens today, and Disney is already directing guests into a virtual waiting room before the 10:00 a.m. Eastern registration launch. With demand expected to be high once again, many runners are already preparing for what has become one of the busiest mornings on the runDisney calendar.

The waiting room is designed to organize traffic before registration begins, but Disney says arriving early doesn't automatically move someone closer to the front of the line.

Instead, everyone already inside the waiting room before 10:00 a.m. receives a randomly assigned place in the queue. Guests who join after registration officially opens are placed behind those already waiting in the order they arrive.

Disney also advises participants not to refresh the page after entering the waiting room. The system updates automatically, allowing runners to keep their place without additional action.

One detail that catches some first-time participants by surprise is that reaching checkout doesn't guarantee registration.

A race spot isn't officially reserved until payment has been completed successfully. After checkout finishes, runners receive a confirmation email confirming their registration.

The 2027 Springtime Surprise Weekend will take place April 8 through April 11 at Walt Disney World Resort.

This year's event celebrates the history of Walt Disney Animation Studios with four race options spread across the weekend.

The festivities begin with a Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz-themed 5K on April 9. The Robin Hood-inspired 10K follows on April 10, featuring Prince John and Sir Hiss. The weekend concludes with the Alice and the Cheshire Cat-themed 10-Miler on April 11.

Participants looking for an even bigger goal can register for the Springtime Surprise Challenge, completing all three races for a combined 19.3 miles over the course of the weekend.

Registration costs range from $125 for the 5K to $555 for the Challenge.

Although Disney offers multiple race options, availability often disappears quickly. runDisney weekends have earned a reputation for selling out, particularly once general registration begins.

That demand has made preparation almost essential. Experienced runners often recommend logging into your Disney account beforehand, entering the waiting room before registration opens, and having payment information ready to avoid unnecessary delays during checkout.

The virtual waiting room continues to generate plenty of conversation among the runDisney community every registration cycle. Some appreciate that the random assignment gives everyone already waiting the same chance at an early queue position. Others would prefer a different system altogether.

Regardless of those opinions, the popularity of runDisney shows no signs of slowing down. The combination of exclusive medals, Disney entertainment, themed races, and the chance to run through Walt Disney World continues drawing participants from around the world.

For anyone hoping to cross the finish line next April, today's registration marks the first and most important step. If history repeats itself, many of these race bibs won't be available for very long.
