What Disney Doesn’t Tell You About This “Free” Offer

You may want to press pause before banking on that “free” Disney water park perk. Starting this September, things are shifting in a way that might throw off your vacation plans, especially if you had your heart set on Blizzard Beach.

Blizzard Beach: The Coolest Park in the Florida Heat

Blizzard Beach isn’t your average water park. Themed as a snow-covered ski resort that somehow melted under the Florida sun, it’s packed with icy charm and thrilling attractions. This park offers the best of both worlds, from the steep plunge of Summit Plummet to the family-friendly Teamboat Springs. Whether you’re in the mood to chill on a lazy river or let the little ones explore Tike’s Peak, there’s something for everyone. It’s a fan-favorite for good reason—but if you’re heading to Disney this fall, you might miss out.

The “Free” Water Park Benefit Sounds Great—But…

In 2025, guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel get complimentary water park access on their check-in day. The catch? It only applies to one of Disney’s water parks—either Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach—and it’s strictly limited to that single day. No take-backs, no rain checks. The perk is great in theory, but it’s about to become a bit more restrictive.

September Shake-Up: Blizzard Beach Closing

Starting Monday, September 8, 2025, Blizzard Beach will shut down for its annual refurbishment. This means from that date forward, guests can only use their arrival day water park pass at Typhoon Lagoon. That shift is a big deal for families and thrill-seekers hoping to experience the snow-covered fun of Blizzard. Historically, Disney alternates which water park is open depending on the season. This fall, the shift back to that one-park model could affect a lot of vacationers.

Why Guests Should Care

This change isn’t just a small detail—it’s something that could affect the overall feel of your trip.

First, expectations might not match reality. Many guests assume both water parks will be available during their stay, especially if they’ve heard about both being open during the summer months. Showing up to find one closed can be a disappointing surprise.

Second, if your flight comes in late or you’re delayed for any reason, there’s no opportunity to push your water park day. It’s a use-it-or-lose-it perk, and if the one park open doesn’t appeal to you, you’re out of luck.

Not to mention, with Blizzard Beach closed, all guests will be funneled into Typhoon Lagoon. That likely means longer lines, more crowded pools, and less of that laid-back vibe Disney water parks are known for.

Plan Around the Pitfalls

If you’re traveling after September 7, make sure to:

  • Check park hours and closure calendars before you book.

  • Arrive as early as possible on check-in day to make the most of your perk.

  • Consider booking a split stay at two resorts—this could give you more than one water park day.

  • Have a backup plan in case the park is overcrowded or weather becomes an issue.

  • You might also want to pack your patience. Water park staffing and crowd levels can fluctuate in the fall, so even Typhoon Lagoon may feel a bit different than it does in the summer months.

The water park perk is still a nice bonus—but it’s not as wide open as it sounds. With Blizzard Beach taking its annual break, your magical splash day might look a little different. Just be prepared so you’re not caught off guard when that snow-themed dream disappears.
