Getting aboard a Disney cruise can sometimes require a vacation before the vacation, especially for families who live far from the company’s busiest departure ports.
For one group of travelers, that has been the reality for the last several years. A convenient option disappeared after 2023, even as Disney Cruise Line continued expanding elsewhere.
The wait is almost over.
Disney has now confirmed that the missing option will return for a limited period in fall 2027. Several different cruises are planned, and the Disney Wish will be at the center of the comeback.
Why Families Keep Choosing Disney Cruises
Disney Cruise Line takes many familiar parts of a Disney vacation and puts them at sea.
Guests can find characters, entertainment, themed dining, and other Disney touches aboard the ships. They can also explore multiple destinations without changing hotels throughout the trip.
A family might spend the day exploring a port before returning to the ship for dinner and entertainment. By the next morning, they can be somewhere completely different.
Disney also adds seasonal experiences to select voyages. Halloween on the High Seas brings Halloween-themed offerings aboard certain fall cruises.
In 2027, several of those Halloween sailings will give some travelers a Disney vacation option they have not had in years.
Disney Cruise Line Will Return to New York
Disney Cruise Line will officially sail from New York City again in fall 2027.
The Disney Wish will operate a limited schedule between late September and early November. Destinations include Bermuda, Canada, New England, and eventually Puerto Rico.
Hints about the return appeared before the schedule became clear.
An update to the Cruise NYC website in July raised questions about Disney's return. Disney later shared coordinates on social media ahead of its announcement, including one set pointing toward New York City.
The full schedule now confirms the comeback.

Northeast Travelers Have Waited Since 2023
Disney Cruise Line last operated from New York in fall 2023.
At the time, the Disney Dream sailed select Bermuda and Eastern Canada itineraries from the city. New York then disappeared from Disney’s schedule.
That left Northeast families looking toward other ports if they wanted to take a Disney cruise. For some travelers, that meant heading to Florida or another destination before ever boarding the ship.
The 2027 return gives those guests a closer option again, even if it will only be available for several weeks.
Disney is also offering multiple itineraries rather than making New York a one-stop cruise.
Bermuda Will Welcome the Disney Wish First
The Disney Wish starts its New York schedule with a four-night Bermuda cruise departing September 29.
The ship will visit King’s Wharf before returning on October 3.
Disney will then offer a five-night Canada and New England cruise beginning October 3. The Halloween on the High Seas itinerary visits Saint John, New Brunswick, and Boston.
Another Halloween sailing departs on October 8. The six-night trip visits King’s Wharf and Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Two five-night Bermuda cruises follow on October 14 and October 19. Both will feature Halloween on the High Seas.
Disney Will Spend More Time in Canada
Guests wanting a longer voyage can choose a seven-night Canada cruise departing October 24.
That Halloween on the High Seas sailing runs through October 31 and visits Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island, Sydney in Nova Scotia, and Halifax.
Disney will then close out its New York run with a one-way trip.
The Disney Wish leaves on October 31 for a five-night Halloween on the High Seas cruise. It will visit King’s Wharf before ending in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on November 5.
Disney has posted the itineraries, but reservations are not available yet.
Disney Has More Ships to Move Around
New York has never served as a permanent home port for Disney Cruise Line. Instead, Disney has occasionally brought ships to the city for limited periods.
Its growing fleet gives Disney greater flexibility to serve different destinations while maintaining operations from its major ports.
The cruise line has also expanded its relationship with St. Maarten. Meanwhile, its agreement with the Port of San Diego now extends through 2031.
New York is now returning to the mix.
Northeast Guests Are Finally Getting This Option Back
The 2027 schedule could remove a major travel step for some Northeast Disney fans.
Rather than heading south or traveling to another distant departure point, families can once again board a Disney ship directly from New York City.
They will have several choices during the brief return, including Bermuda, Canadian destinations, Halloween on the High Seas cruises, and a one-way voyage to Puerto Rico.
New York may only return for several weeks, but that is still a meaningful change after three full years without departures.
For travelers who have been waiting since 2023, Disney Cruise Line is finally bringing the experience closer to home.
