10 Things to Do on a Day Off From the Parks

5. Conquer the kitchen sink!

On a day off from the parks, head over to Beaches and Cream Soda Shop between Disney’s Yacht Club and Disney’s Beach Club and order the Kitchen Sink. It’s a massive dessert—more than enough to share—and you’ll still have some left over! Just look at these ingredients—eight scoops of ice cream topped with fudge, butterscotch and peanut butter toppings, banana slices, cinnamon spice cupcake pieces, angel food cupcake pieces, chocolate syrup, marshmallow crème, strawberry topping, pineapple topping, an entire can of whipped topping, brownie pieces, dark and white chocolate shavings, chocolate cookie pieces, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and more! You may need the whole day from the parks to tackle this mammoth dessert!

6. Make a splash at a water park.

Disney World not only has four theme parks, but there are also two water parks at the resort. Guests can enjoy water fun at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon or Disney’s Blizzard Beach. Both water parks offer Guests different water rides and attractions, as well as quick-service restaurants where they can grab a bite so they don’t have to leave during the day! The water parks are great places to spend a day outside the theme parks!

7. Go swimming!

If you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you can enjoy the pool(s). None of them are plain Jane versions of swimming pools. Rather, each of the resort hotel pools are themed. One is even shaped like a piano (All-Star Music Resort). Enjoy the pool at your resort with your family and then head back to your room to relax afterward. You’ll feel rested and refreshed for your next day at the parks!

I am a writer and a Mom to four children and two baby shih-tzus. My first experience with the Magic was in 1988, when my parents surprised my brother and me with a visit to Walt Disney World after a short trip to see friends in Georgia. I still hum the tune played during the Main Street Electrical Parade and remember the feeling of excitement from my very first visit. I introduced my husband to the Magic several years ago, and we take our children to the parks every time we can. No matter how many times I visit Walt Disney World, it seems it’s not enough! The ever-changing experience only gets better with each trip, and I’m thrilled to share the Magic with others, as well as some of the tips and tricks to getting the most out of the Magic with each visit!
