10 Things to Do on a Day Off From the Parks

8. Ride a surrey bike.

Think of these bikes as bicycles built for two. Or four. Or six. Surrey bikes are available to rent at Disney’s Boardwalk. And after you take a leisurely surrey bike ride with the family, head to Trattoria al Forno at the Boardwalk for some amazing Italian comfort food. If you don’t happen to be at the Boardwalk, you can also rent surrey bikes at some of Disney’s Resort hotels. If you’re not sure if your hotel has them, just ask at the hotel’s front desk. If your hotel doesn’t have them, the Cast Member at your hotel can help you find the nearest place to rent one.

9. Take a round-trip ride on the monorail.

It won’t cost you a park ticket to hop aboard the monorail. And sometimes it’s more fun to ride when you’re not racing to Magic Kingdom or EPCOT so you don’t miss a FastPass+ time or a dining reservation. It can be both fun and relaxing to board a train, sit back and take in the sights all around you!

10. Resort hop.

Whether you’re staying on Disney property or off Disney property during your vacation, it’s so much fun to go resort hopping—stopping in to different Disney Resort hotels and taking in all the decorations and theming, doing some pin trading, and even stopping for lunch or dinner in a resort hotel restaurant. During the Christmas holidays, the resorts are dressed in their holiday best, and resort hopping is also at its best. And no ticket is required!

I am a writer and a Mom to four children and two baby shih-tzus. My first experience with the Magic was in 1988, when my parents surprised my brother and me with a visit to Walt Disney World after a short trip to see friends in Georgia. I still hum the tune played during the Main Street Electrical Parade and remember the feeling of excitement from my very first visit. I introduced my husband to the Magic several years ago, and we take our children to the parks every time we can. No matter how many times I visit Walt Disney World, it seems it’s not enough! The ever-changing experience only gets better with each trip, and I’m thrilled to share the Magic with others, as well as some of the tips and tricks to getting the most out of the Magic with each visit!
