10 Things We Love About Haunted Mansion

As one of Walt Disney World’s eeriest, creepiest, and most haunted attractions, the Haunted Mansion is incredibly popular among crowds of all ages. This Magic Kingdom ride is full of characters and rooms integral to the story and experience that have led to Haunted Mansion’s huge following! Here are 10 things we love about haunted mansion:

10.) Interactive Queue

Before you even get inside the Haunted Mansion, you and your family will get to experience an interactive queue where you can play with some of the Happy Haunts. With a Musical Crypt, a Secret Library, and more, there’s fun for little ones and adults alike. If you choose to fastpass this ride, then you won’t get to experience this awesome queue, so consider that when making your fastpass selections.

9.) Ghost Host

Who doesn’t love a creepy tour guide who you can’t see and can only hear? The Ghost Host is an awesome part of the Haunted Mansion. From the moment the lights dim in the stretching room, you are greeted by the Ghost Host, a departed soul with an eerily captivating voice who shows you around the mansion. The Ghost Host appears in your doom buggy, around the rooms, and all over the mansion.

8.) Dancing Ghosts

As you travel through the mansion, you’ll pass by a grand ballroom where a party is being held. At the end of the ballroom are several pairs of ghosts dancing to eerie Organ music. These ghosts are whirling and waltzing around the room with the female ghosts resembling princesses. While not usually a major focal point of the ride, the dancing ghosts add a romantic feel to the creepy ride, and are a favorite among some of the fans.

7.) Singing Busts

Inside the graveyard of the Haunted Mansion, the “Grim Grinning Ghosts” theme song is led by a quintet comprised of marble bust heads. These five quirky characters sing a rousing chorus, and are always a fun part of the Haunted Mansion. They are some of the most popular characters in the ride, each with their own names: Rollo Rumkin, Uncle Theodore, Cousin Algernon, Ned Nub, and Phineas P. Pock. Next time you go through the mansion, see if you can figure out who is who!

6.) Pet Cemetery

As you exit the ride, you’ll notice when you look around just outside the mansion that there is actually a Pet Cemetery with gravestones of pets who passed away. With dogs, cats, frogs, and birds, you and your family will get to see the animal friends who haunt the graveyards of the Haunted Mansion. Isn’t that so cool?

5.) Tombstones

Before the interactive queue was brought to the Haunted Mansion, the queue mainly consisted of Tombstones with ironic epitaphs and silly names. After the interactive queue was added, the Tombstones were not done away with; in fact, because of their popularity, even more were added. There are numerous souvenirs decked out with these graves reinforcing their popularity. Try to find all the tombstones next time you’re meandering through the queue!

4.) The Bride

In the attic of the Haunted Mansion, you’ll see various pictures of the same Bride with a different groom in each one. Right before you leave the attic, the ghost of the same Bride is there with a hatchet, saying phrases such as “’til death do us part”. The Bride is one of the iconic characters of the mansion, and is someone we all enjoy seeing.

3.) Madame Leota

Like the Bride of the mansion, Madame Leota is well-loved by fans of this classic ride. With her spirit kept in a crystal ball, she continually performs séances to summon spirits in the music room of the mansion. Voiced by the Eleanor Audley, the same woman who voiced both Maleficent and Lady Tremaine, Madame Leota is a well-known presence around the Mansion. If you pay attention during the queue, you’ll even see a special tomb devoted to her!

2.) Stretching Portraits

When you first enter the mansion, you are ushered into the stretching room, where your story begins. As the story progresses, the portraits in the room begin to stretch, revealing ironically creepy twists to the otherwise normal portraits. These portraits are iconic parts of the Haunted Mansion, and are one of the parts we love the most!

1.) Hitchhiking Ghosts

Possibly the most popular part of the Haunted Mansion is everyone’s favorite hitchhiking ghosts: Gus, Ezra, and Phineas. These funny guys hop a ride with you in your doombuggy, trying to escape with you from the mansion. Always doing silly things, these three ghosts are like the posterchildren for the Haunted Mansion. They are always there, showing us a good time, and add an excellent amount of silliness to the creepy mansion.

No matter how many times you’ve been to the Haunted Mansion, it never gets old. For a mansion so full of ghosts, it’s definitely one of the liveliest attractions in the parks. We love the Haunted Mansion, and we hope you will too!
