There Are Over a Dozen Things You Can’t Do at Disney World

Walt Disney World Resort is a magical place filled with unforgettable experiences for the whole family. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning for another enchanted vacation, there’s one thing that’s certain: there’s a lot to see and do. But, to ensure you make the most of your trip, it’s just as important to know what not to do. Keep reading for the 13 mistakes to avoid during your Walt Disney World vacation, so your visit is nothing short of magical.

1. Skip Researching Before Your Trip

Think you can just show up and wing it at Disney? Think again! Skipping research can lead to a vacation disaster, leaving you unprepared for the crowds, ride refurbishments, and the unpredictable Central Florida weather.

While you don’t need to dive into every detail, it’s crucial to check a few things:

  • Which attractions are undergoing refurbishments

  • The current weather forecast for your visit

  • Any special events or festivals happening during your stay

By doing just a little research, you’ll make your trip smoother, with less stress and more time enjoying the magic. Trust us—Disney cast members are ready to help, but having a game plan in advance can save you loads of time!

2. Sleep In Too Late

You might want to relax and sleep in on vacation, but if you sleep in every day, you’re missing out on the best part of your Disney trip: the mornings!

Here’s why early mornings are key:

  • Lighter crowds: Mornings tend to be much quieter, especially in EPCOT’s World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature areas.

  • Shorter wait times: You’ll be able to enjoy your favorite rides without spending hours in line.

  • Cooler temperatures: The weather is much more pleasant before the sun starts heating up the Disney parks.

Take our advice—set that alarm a little earlier and enjoy the parks before the crowds take over!

3. Forget to Stay Hydrated

The Florida heat can be brutal, and with all that walking, dehydration can sneak up on you faster than you think. Here’s the good news: staying hydrated at Walt Disney World Resort is easy!

  • Free cups of ice water are available at all Quick Service restaurants.

  • Make regular pit stops to sip on water throughout the day.

  • Water bottle refill stations are available near bathrooms around Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

Hydration is key to maintaining energy levels. Trust us, a hydrated you is a happy you!

4. Forget to Pack for the Weather

Florida is known for its unpredictable weather. One minute it’s sunny, and the next, you’re caught in a downpour. Plus, the temperature can dip in the winter, so packing smartly is essential.

Here’s what you need to bring:

  • Rain gear: A lightweight poncho or umbrella will come in handy when the sudden Florida rain hits.

  • Layers: During cooler months, temperatures can drop at night, so pack a light jacket just in case.

  • Comfortable clothing: Wear breathable clothing to stay cool during the day, and make sure you have a backup layer for chilly evenings.

By packing thoughtfully, you’ll always be prepared—no matter what the weather throws at you!

5. Cut or Save Spaces in Lines

This one might seem harmless, but cutting lines is a huge no-no. Holding a spot for others can frustrate fellow guests and cause unnecessary drama.

  • If your family is running late, you still have wait in line like everyone else.

  • If you need a bathroom break, most guests will understand, but don’t cut the line and try to sneak your whole family in.

Everyone at Disney is there for the magic—so be considerate of your fellow guests!

6. Ignore Cast Member Directions

Disney cast members are there to make sure everything runs smoothly. You may not always understand their instructions, but rest assured, they are designed to make your visit more efficient and safe.

Whether it’s moving to the end of the row for a show or following specific directions during an attraction, it’s vital to listen and comply. Their goal is to get more guests into the magic and make your experience better.

7. Wear Out the Kids

While you may be able to handle the long days, your little ones may not. Long hours of walking and late nights can quickly wear out kids. To keep the whole family happy, try these tips:

  • Take breaks: Plan some downtime throughout the day—whether it’s a meal, a short break in the shade, or a few hours at the resort pool.

  • Stay on schedule: Keep your kids on a regular sleep schedule to avoid too much exhaustion.
  • Focus on kid-friendly attractions: Make sure to prioritize attractions like Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! and Peter Pan’s Flight, which are perfect for the little ones.

Remember, a well-rested child is a happy child—especially at Disney!

8. Count Calories

You’re at Disney, so why stress about calories? With all the walking you’ll do, you’ll burn more calories than you think, so go ahead and enjoy the park food!

  • Indulge in Disney snacks: Mickey-shaped pretzels, churros, and Dole Whip—you’ve got to try them all!

  • Balance it out: While enjoying a few treats, don’t forget that Disney also offers plenty of lighter options if you’re in the mood for something healthier. Keep your body fueled!

It’s vacation—relax, indulge, and enjoy every bite without counting every calorie.

9. Take Flash Photos Inside Rides

It can be tempting to snap a picture of every magical moment, but flash photography on dark rides can ruin the experience for other guests. Here’s why you should keep the flash off:

  • Flash photos interfere with the special effects on rides like Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Pirates of the Caribbean.

  • The bright light from your flash disrupts the ride’s magic, making it less enjoyable for everyone.

Put the camera down during those dark rides, and let everyone enjoy the show without distractions!

10. Leave the Park Right After Fireworks

After the breathtaking Happily Ever After fireworks show, many guests rush to leave the Magic Kingdom. But this often results in long lines for buses, monorails, and other transportation.

Instead, take it slow:

  • Take your time: Do some last-minute shopping at The Emporium, take in one more ride, or snap a few photos of Cinderella Castle as the lights shine.

  • Let the crowd disperse: Wait about 20 minutes after the show, and most of the crowd will have thinned out, making for a much less stressful exit.

Enjoy the park a little longer and avoid the rush!

11. Spend the Whole Trip on Your Phone

It’s easy to get caught up in your phone while at Walt Disney World Resort—whether you’re checking the My Disney Experience app or posting photos. But here’s a tip: put the phone down and live in the moment.

  • Capture memories: Sure, take photos, but focus on experiencing the magic in-person, not just through a lens.

  • Use the My Disney Experience app when necessary: You’ll need it to make dining reservations or reserve Lightning Lanes, but resist the urge to check it every minute.

A Disney vacation is all about making memories, so don’t let your phone steal the show!

12. Skip the Pool at Your Disney Resort

Disney Resort hotel pools are often overlooked, but they’re the perfect places to unwind and recharge. Here’s why you shouldn’t skip going for a swim:

  • Free fun: Pools are included in the price of your stay, so take full advantage!

  • Activities for kids: Disney Resorts often host fun activities for kids at the pool, making it a great family bonding time.

  • Relaxation: After a busy day in the parks, spending some time at the pool can be exactly what you need to relax.

Take a break from the parks and enjoy the downtime—your body will thank you!

13. Forget to Tip Cast Members

Disney is known for its amazing customer service, and Disney cast members are the heart of that experience. When it comes to tipping, don’t forget:

  • Housekeeping: A small tip for your housekeeper goes a long way in showing appreciation.

  • Dining staff: Table Service waitstaff can accept tips from guests; Quick Service cast members cannot.

  • Transportation staff: If someone helps with your luggage, consider tipping them for their service.

A little appreciation goes a long way, and your tips make a difference in the cast members’ day!
