Walt Disney World has started rolling out hotel updates for 2026, and they aren’t small changes that only matter to hardcore planners. These updates could directly affect how families book their stays, especially now that so many guests feel like staying on property costs more than ever.
Disney isn’t pretending prices are dropping, but it's clearly trying to sweeten the deal. Between perks, refurbishments, and new discounts, it’s obvious Disney wants to keep guests inside the bubble instead of watching them book cheaper offsite hotels.
If you’re already looking at 2026 dates, these are six official hotel updates worth knowing.
Why Disney Hotels Still Win Over Off-Site Stays
Even with sticker shock, Disney resorts still offer convenience that offsite hotels can’t always match. You can skip driving, avoid parking headaches, and let Disney transportation handle the commute. That alone can make a trip feel less stressful.
But the bigger reason guests still want to stay on property is the immersion. Disney resorts don’t feel like typical hotels. They feel like an extension of the vacation, and that atmosphere keeps people coming back even when the price feels hard to justify.
That’s precisely why these 2026 changes matter. Disney seems to understand guests need more than just “theming” if they’re going to keep paying these rates.

Free Water Park Entry
Disney brought back a perk that many guests loved last year. If you stay at a Disney World hotel, you can visit a Disney water park for free on your check-in day. It’s a great way to start your vacation early without paying extra.
However, Disney is adjusting how the perk works in 2026. Instead of offering it year-round, Disney will only make it available during the summer season. That’s when water parks are in the highest demand, but it’s still disappointing for spring and fall travelers who would love the same benefit.
If you want to take advantage of it, summer booking becomes the smart move, and getting to the water park early will matter if capacity becomes an issue.
Refreshed Hotel Looks Are Almost Here
Pop Century has become one of Disney’s most in-demand Value Resorts, and Skyliner access is a big reason why. It offers a fun theme, easy transportation, and a resort experience that often feels stronger than the price suggests.
Now Disney has confirmed the resort’s major refurbishment is close to completion. The project includes updated guest rooms and refreshed public areas, including the lobby and dining areas. Disney expects the room work to wrap up by the end of February 2026, meaning guests traveling in early spring could be among the first to see the finished version.
That matters because Pop Century already sells itself well. Once the resort is fully updated, it could become an even better value for families looking to stay on property without paying Moderate prices.

Characters at Resorts Keep Hotel Days Feeling Like Disney Days
Resort stays often come with little moments guests don’t expect, and character sightings are one of the biggest examples. Disney characters can appear around resort grounds, whether that’s in a lobby, near the entrance, or in common areas where families spend downtime.
These surprise appearances can make a non-park day feel like part of the vacation instead of a “break day.” Disney seems to lean into this most at Moderate and Deluxe resorts, which fits the premium experience those hotels are supposed to provide.
Summer Brings More Experiences
Disney is also bringing back Cool Kid Summer from May 26 through September 8, and resort guests will likely benefit the most. During the event, Disney will add extra character opportunities in all four theme parks during Early Entry.
Since Early Entry is only available to guests staying at Disney hotels, this gives on-property guests something extra beyond just shorter ride lines. For families with young kids, it could be a huge perk. Character meet-and-greets can eat up hours of a vacation, so seeing characters early in the morning could save time and stress.

Lightning Lane and Dining Planning Still Favor Hotel Guests
One of the most important perks of staying at a Disney resort in 2026 is the planning advantage. Resort guests can book Lightning Lane selections 7 days in advance, while offsite guests have only a 3-day window. That extra time can make a major difference when you’re trying to snag the best return times.
Dining also works in favor of resort guests. All guests can book dining 60 days out, but Disney resort guests can reserve dining for the length of their stay (up to 10 nights) starting at the 60-day mark. That makes it much easier to lock down popular restaurants like Cinderella’s Royal Table or Chef Mickey’s before reservations disappear.

Disney’s Discounts Might Be the Biggest “Perk” of All
Disney has also been pushing strong hotel deals for 2026, which could help guests save serious money. One deal adds two free nights to a stay when guests purchase a 4-night, 4-day or longer room-and-ticket package through the Walt Disney Travel Company. Guests must book by February 15, 2026, and the deal applies to many nights from May 26 through September 15.
Disney also offers up to 30% off select resorts for stays from May 1 through October 4. Florida residents can save up to 35% on stays from May 1 through July 29, and Annual Passholders can save up to 40% during that same time period.
Disney Is Trying to Make the Bubble Feel Worth It Again
Disney resort stays still cost a lot, and nothing here changes that reality. But these updates show Disney is at least trying to make the on-property experience feel stronger in 2026. Between free water park entry in summer, Pop Century’s refreshed look, extra character opportunities, planning advantages, and multiple discounts, Disney is clearly working to keep guests booking resorts instead of looking elsewhere.
If you’re planning a 2026 trip, these changes could make staying on property feel more justifiable than it has in a while.
