After years of guest complaints, Walt Disney World Resort has finally addressed one of Toy Story Land’s most glaring issues. The popular land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting a much-needed upgrade, correcting what many Disney Park visitors have long considered an oversight.
A Longstanding Problem in Toy Story Land

Since opening on June 30, 2018, Toy Story Land has been a must-visit area for fans of the beloved Pixar franchise. The immersive land transports guests straight into Andy’s backyard with attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania!. However, there was one major flaw—almost no shade.
From day one, Disney Park guests voiced concerns about the brutal Central Florida heat and the near-total lack of covered areas. Aside from indoor relief in Toy Story Mania! and the restrooms, visitors were left to battle the elements in the scorching sun. Quick Service restaurant Woody’s Lunch Box, in particular, was infamous for offering no shade for diners looking to enjoy their meals.
Disney Finally Listens to Guest Feedback

In 2019, Walt Disney World Resort attempted to address this issue by announcing Roundup Rodeo BBQ, an indoor Table Service dining option to provide an alternative for guests looking to escape the heat. However, its delayed opening in March 2023 did little to help guests who preferred the convenience of a Quick Service meal at Woody’s Lunch Box.
For years, families resorted to taking their meals outside Toy Story Land to dine in air-conditioned locations like the ABC Commissary. But now, that struggle is coming to an end. Recent construction at Woody’s Lunch Box has introduced a new shading structure, marking a permanent improvement to the dining area.
A Permanent Fix at Woody’s Lunch Box

Guests using the My Disney Experience app may have noticed recent warnings about limited seating as crews worked on enhancements at Woody’s Lunch Box. During the process, overflow seating was made available near the entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Now, that work is nearly complete.
As of February 17, 2025, the seating area at Woody’s Lunch Box is officially shaded. According to BlogMickey, construction crews have removed the overflow seating and unveiled a shading structure built around the K’nex tower. Scaffolding remains as crews continue electrical work for possible fans or lighting, but the structures mark a significant improvement for guests seeking relief from the sun.
What’s Next for Toy Story Land?

Despite the much-needed addition, some areas within Toy Story Land remain exposed to the elements. Whether Disney plans to expand shade structures throughout the land remains to be seen. For now, some guests can finally enjoy a meal at Woody’s Lunch Box without worrying about the oppressive Florida heat.
