LEGOLAND Takes on Disney and Universal with Groundbreaking $90 Million Coaster

Hold onto your LEGO bricks—LEGOLAND Florida just made a BIG move in the theme park wars! The family-friendly park is going ALL IN with a brand-new indoor roller coaster, a huge investment that looks like a direct challenge to Disney and Universal’s latest thrill rides.

Merlin Entertainments, LEGOLAND’s parent company, just announced a whopping $90 million investment in new attractions, including what they’re calling a “groundbreaking” coaster coming to both LEGOLAND Florida and LEGOLAND California. The company says this is the biggest single investment in LEGOLAND history—so you KNOW they mean business.

Taking on the Big Guys?

Look, let’s be real—LEGOLAND isn’t exactly known for extreme thrills. But this brand-new coaster is coming at a time when Universal and Disney are also flexing their ride muscles. Over at Disney World, TRON Lightcycle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind have been drawing major crowds with their high-tech indoor coaster experiences. Universal is getting ready to open its massive Epic Universe, which will feature multiple high-speed coasters and state-of-the-art attractions.

So is LEGOLAND throwing its hat in the ring to compete? Sure looks like it.

What We Know About the Ride

LEGOLAND is keeping the details super hush-hush, but they did confirm that this will be a family-friendly experience aimed at kids ages 2 to 12 (so don’t expect an insane launch coaster like VelociCoaster just yet). According to LEGOLAND Florida Resort President Franceen Gonzales, this won’t just be a ride—it’ll be an “unprecedented adventure.”

And That’s Not All…

LEGOLAND isn’t stopping with coasters. The resort is also adding a SEA LIFE Florida Aquarium, a 150,000-gallon underwater wonderland packed with 3,000 sea creatures and 25 interactive exhibits. That attraction opens May 23, 2025—so get ready to dive in!
