If you’re planning a Universal Orlando Resort trip later this year or next, you’ll want to keep an eye on the closure calendar. Some big-name attractions are stepping out for maintenance. One fan-favorite attraction is about to call it quits for good. Let’s run through what’s closing, when, and what it means for your visit.
Routine Maintenance for Fan Favorites
A few popular rides are taking short breaks this fall for regular upkeep. These closures are temporary, just a simple refurbishment period. Nonetheless, they can still be disappointing if you visit during the downtime.
-
Skull Island: Reign of Kong (Islands of Adventure)
Closed August 20–29, 2025
This dark ride through monster territory offers a mix of screen-based effects and real sets. It’ll be offline for about 10 days while Universal gives it a little love behind the scenes.

- Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls(Islands of Adventure)
Closed October 6–31, 2025
If you were hoping for a good splash, you’ll have to wait. This quirky flume ride blends water fun with cartoon humor, but it’s going under refurbishment for most of October.
- Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey (Islands of Adventure)
Closed November 3–16, 2025
Inside Hogwarts Castle, this beloved motion-based ride puts guests right into The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Expect two weeks of downtime in early November—so plan your Butterbeer and wand-waving accordingly.

Looking Ahead: Volcano Bay Closure
Universal Volcano Bay
Seasonal Closure: October 26, 2026 – on or before March 24, 2027
This extended seasonal closure will take the water park offline for the winter months. It’s a longer break than usual, so if you’re eyeing a warm-weather escape, aim for before late October—or wait until spring 2027.

Say Farewell to a Classic
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (Universal Studios)
Closes Permanently August 18, 2025
Universal fans have just a little more time to ride this music-blasting coaster before it disappears. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is permanently closing after August 17, 2025, to make way for a brand-new experience. Universal hasn’t revealed what’s coming next, but this move definitely marks the end of an era for one of the park’s most recognizable thrill rides. Its vertical lift hill, onboard music choices, and wild drops made it a must-ride for thrill seekers. This isn’t just a minor update—it’s a complete goodbye.
Check Before You Go
Between the permanent loss of a coaster and some fan-favorite refurbishments, fall 2025 will be an adjustment period. Double-check the Universal app or official website before your trip to avoid missing anything on your must-do list.
