Disney Legend Turns Back on Company and America in Latest Move

Ellen DeGeneres didn’t just exit stage left—she left the building, the country, and possibly even her legacy.

The former talk show titan recently confirmed that she and her wife have officially made the United Kingdom their home. After unloading their $27 million Montecito property, the couple relocated to the English countryside just ahead of the last presidential election. When Donald Trump secured a win, Ellen says their decision was finalized: they were staying in the U.K. for good.

Ellen’s Not Holding Back

In a stand-up performance overseas, Ellen told her British audience that “everything” is better in England—from the scenery to how people treat animals. “It’s clean. It’s charming. It’s polite,” she said. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty.”

Those comments have struck a nerve with some back in the U.S. Others, however, never even realized she left to begin with. Especially because Ellen didn’t just grow up here—she built a multi-million dollar empire here. She was once one of Disney’s most beloved stars, famously voicing Dory in Pixar’s Finding Nemo and its sequel.

Disney’s Dory Dilemma

With Ellen now publicly distancing herself from both Hollywood and America, the future of Dory is up in the air. No third Finding Nemo film has been announced, but if one ever does come to light, Disney may be forced to recast the role or drop the character entirely. That’s a tough call, considering Dory has become one of Pixar’s most recognizable faces.

Given DeGeneres’s abrupt disconnection and the baggage from her show’s toxic workplace controversy, it’s doubtful Disney will try to rekindle the partnership. In fact, it might be easier for them to quietly move on.

Closing the Door Behind Her

Ellen says she’s enjoying the quiet life now—raising chickens, enjoying the calm, and possibly exploring new creative avenues away from Hollywood. But there’s no mistaking the message she’s sending: she’s finished with the entertainment industry, finished with the U.S., and with Disney.

It’s a major pivot for her, but it's also one that we're not surprised to see.

For now, Ellen’s made it crystal clear: she’s not looking back and neither should Disney.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
