Is Disney World Charging More for Access to Hotel Showers? What You Need To Know

A popular social media post recently suggested that Walt Disney World Resort is charging guests extra for access to hotel showers. The post, which gained traction on Reddit, created a stir, with some questioning whether the Central Florida resort was trying to squeeze even more money out of its guests at its most expensive hotel properties. Let’s dive into the truth behind this rumor and what you really need to know.

Walt Disney World Resort offers three types of hotels: Deluxe, Moderate, and Value. With more than 20 hotels on the property, ranging from luxurious Disney Vacation Club (DVC) villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa to campsites at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort, there’s something for every budget. However, Reddit user u/nineteen_eightyfour recently noticed something strange while trying to book a Deluxe Studio at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge.

The post highlighted the peculiar booking page, which appeared to separate rooms into two categories: Deluxe Studio – Resort View and Deluxe Studio with Shower – Resort View. The implication was that one of these rooms didn’t include a shower, causing the Reddit user to wonder if they’d be charged extra for something as essential as shower access.

“Oof hope the rate for the shower isn’t too much more. I like showers,” the Reddit user joked.

The truth behind the confusion is much less dramatic. The reason for the two options is that the Deluxe Studio – Resort View room offers a shower/tub combo, while the Deluxe Studio with Shower – Resort View room features a walk-in shower. The walk-in shower is typically available in accessible rooms designed for guests with mobility challenges. While the walk-in showers are ideal for guests with accessibility needs or adult travelers, they may not appeal to families with young children who might prefer a bathtub.

Both Disney Resort hotel room types are priced the same, whether paying with cash or DVC points, so there is no extra charge for the shower. The distinction simply allows Walt Disney World Resort guests to choose the room configuration that best meets their needs, whether for accessibility or personal preference.

Despite the simple explanation, the post sparked some amusing commentary from Disney Parks fans.

“I wouldn’t splurge on the shower, it rains almost daily in FL this time of year,” read the most popular comment from u/onimush115. “Just bring a bar of soap with you into the parks and make use of that time in line!”

If they give you a a hand cloth and a towel, I’ll do the sink bath,” u/MannyBoth-Hanz joked.

As it turns out, the rumor about the Most Magical Place on Earth charging more for showers is nothing more than a misunderstanding. The hotel’s booking system simply provides options for guests to select a room that best suits their needs, including accessible showers for those who require them. There is no extra charge for shower access at Walt Disney World Resort hotels.
