Universal Orlando Announces Surprise Closure for Popular Thrill Ride

Universal Orlando has been in the headlines lately, and not just for new attractions. The park recently confirmed Hollywood Rip Ride RockIt will permanently close on August 18, 2025 — and now another popular coaster is about to go offline, albeit for a much shorter stretch.

Rip Ride RockIt’s departure is already bittersweet for fans who love its blend of towering drops and personalized music playlists. The coaster has been a staple of Universal Studios Florida’s skyline for years, and its last weeks are expected to draw heavy crowds looking for one final ride.

Now, guests aiming to pack multiple thrill rides into a single visit might have to juggle their plans a bit.

Short Refurbishment for a Universal Classic

Revenge of the Mummy will be closed from August 11 through August 13, 2025, for scheduled maintenance. Universal hasn’t released specifics about what’s being addressed, but short closures like this usually focus on routine tune-ups — track inspections, vehicle servicing, and ensuring the special effects (including that signature blast of fire) work perfectly.

The Mummy isn’t new to downtime. In 2022, it underwent a major refurbishment that included retracking and updated show elements, a project that stretched over several months. That closure drew mixed reviews from fans who weren’t thrilled about the long wait. This time, things are expected to move quickly.

Guest Impact and Ride Availability

The good news? If the timeline holds, the Mummy will reopen August 14, giving visitors a narrow window to enjoy both it and Rip Ride RockIt before the latter’s final day. But if delays happen, guests could find both coasters down simultaneously — a situation that would likely cause longer waits at other big-name attractions like Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts or Transformers: The Ride 3D.

For now, Universal regulars are hoping the Mummy’s short break goes as planned, keeping one of the park’s most popular rides ready to deliver its high-speed escape from Imhotep well into the future.

Andrew Boardwine

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
