When Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, took the stage on August 10, 2024, at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event Presented by Visa, he unveiled a massive expansion for Disney Cruise Line’s award-winning fleet. Between 2027 and 2031, four new ships will join the lineup—one more in the Wish class and three belonging to an all-new class of vessels.
With the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure preparing to set sail later this year, Disney is already looking ahead. Today, the construction of that fourth Wish-class ship has officially begun.
A Ceremony with Disney Magic
The milestone was marked with a steel-cutting ceremony—a maritime tradition celebrating the start of a ship’s physical construction.
For Disney Cruise Line, the magic was turned up a notch. Captain Mickey pressed the button to start the cutting, sending sparks flying as the first steel plate was shaped into the silhouette of the future ship, complete with the “Disney Cruise Line” name.
Guests in attendance were invited to sign the cut steel, transforming it into a keepsake that will forever be tied to the vessel’s beginning. The moment was equal parts tradition, celebration, and Disney charm.
Details on the New Ship
Set for delivery in 2027, this vessel will measure approximately 144,000 gross tons, accommodate about 4,000 guests, and be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), one of the cleanest-burning marine fuels available.
It will follow the design philosophy of its Wish-class sisters: grand atriums, themed dining, immersive entertainment, and family-friendly spaces.
Wish Class: A Divided Fanbase
Despite the excitement, the Wish class has not been universally embraced by Disney Cruise Line fans. Many have criticized its layout as confusing, particularly the placement of midship elevators, which some say creates bottlenecks and awkward traffic flow. Others feel the design lacks the warmth and charm of the older Disney ships.
Still, Disney is not slowing down. The Disney Treasure has already been better received than the original Disney Wish, and many are optimistic that the upcoming Destiny will show how refinements can elevate the class. Iterations often lead to improvement, and fans are watching closely.

With construction now underway, the countdown to 2027 begins. Whether the new ship will silence Wish-class critics or simply continue its evolution remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Disney Cruise Line isn’t afraid to keep dreaming big at sea.
