Farewell to Disneyland’s Beloved “Porch Potato,” Who Passed Away at 79

Disneyland is full of iconic sights, sounds, and traditions, but its magic is often shaped by more than attractions and parades. Sometimes, it’s the people who return time after time that become part of the park’s story — the ones who make each visit feel a little more familiar.

Guests may not always know their names, but certain figures stand out in the crowd. They’re the regulars who have woven Disneyland into the fabric of their daily lives, quietly becoming a recognizable part of the park’s heartbeat.

Over the years, these individuals become part of the Disneyland experience for countless visitors, making memories just by being there.

One such familiar face became known for spending countless hours in the same spot — the patio along Main Street, U.S.A. There, he would watch the ebb and flow of guests, greeting passersby and striking up conversations.

For many, spotting him on the porch became as much a Disneyland tradition as grabbing a churro or watching the fireworks.

This beloved regular was Frank Allocco, known to the Disneyland community as the “Porch Potato.” Recently, news of Frank’s passing at the age of 79 made its way through the Disney fan community, and tributes quickly followed. An Instagram account dedicated to Frank honored his memory, writing:

It is with a heavy heart we share the passing of Frank, our beloved Porch Potato. He brought joy to us all with fist bumbs, high fives and enough stories for a million lifetimes. He graced Main Street for almost 20 years (that we can count). You would hear him say “everyday is my is my best day”. He lived for his Disney days and Porch family.
In celebration of his life and 80th birthday this month please post and share your best Porch Potato memory #porchpotatofrank

In the comments, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro also shared a heartfelt remembrance, writing:

One of my favorite things about walking down Main Street was seeing Frank. I feel so lucky to have spent time on the porch with him on our 70th anniversary and so sorry to hear of his passing.

For those who regularly walked past the firehouse, Frank’s presence became something special. He wasn’t a cast member or a character, but his spot on the porch was a fixture, a reminder of how the park is as much about the people as the experiences. Families returning year after year would find him in the same place, ready with a smile and a friendly word.

Frank’s passing marks the end of a unique chapter in Disneyland history, but his story reflects something timeless about the park. It’s the idea that Disneyland is more than just a destination — it’s a community, one made up of both those who work there and those who simply love to be there.

For visitors, that sense of connection is part of what keeps them coming back. While his seat on the porch will now remain empty, the memories of his warm greetings and cheerful presence will linger for years to come.

We’re heartbroken to learn of Porch Potato Frank’s passing. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time. Frank will always be remembered as a beloved part of Disneyland’s legacy, and his presence will be deeply missed. Rest peacefully, Frank.
