Disney Unveils Hollywood Studios Makeover Fans Never Expected

Think again if you believe you know Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The park is undergoing one of its biggest shake-ups and will feel brand new when the work ends. Construction walls rise, classic attractions close, and Disney announces new ones.

Some updates debut years from now, while others have already arrived, but together they clearly show that Hollywood Studios is in transformation mode.

A Fresh Mission in Galaxy’s Edge

Big things are happening in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. On May 22, 2026—the same day the new Mandalorian & Grogu movie hits theaters—Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will debut a brand-new storyline. Mando and Grogu will lead guests on an entirely different mission, giving even veteran pilots a reason to return.

Muppet Vision 3D Bids Farewell

The long-running comedy show officially closed on June 7. While that’s a tough goodbye for many, it’s making way for Monsters, Inc. Land, coming in 2027 or 2028. The star of the show will be the Monsters, Inc. Doors Coaster, whisking guests through the Laugh Factory in a ride straight out of the movie’s iconic door chase.

Muppet fans can relax—the gang isn’t leaving Hollywood Studios. Instead, they’ll be trading the theater for the high-speed thrills.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster’s New Crew

The legendary Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is closing at the end of 2025 or early 2026 for a major retheme starring the Muppets. When it reopens later in 2026, expect the same adrenaline-pumping ride but with a dose of Muppet humor and personality replacing the Aerosmith soundtrack.

Animation Courtyard’s Overhaul

In 2026, Animation Courtyard will also be reimagined into The Magic of Disney Animation, with the Roy E. Disney Animation Building as its centerpiece. Star Wars Launch Bay and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! will close on September 25, 2025, clearing the way for this new space celebrating Disney animation history.

The reimagined area will feature interactive elements like the “Drawn to Wonderland” indoor playground for kids and an art studio-inspired space where families can practice basic animation. Disney will refresh the surrounding courtyard with shady seating, open green spaces, and whimsical details that showcase the magic of Disney artistry.

New Stage Entertainment

May 27, 2025, brought two additions: The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Villains Unfairly Ever After. One dives under the sea with updated effects, elaborate new set pieces, and refreshed staging. At the same time, the other brings Disney villains to life through dramatic musical numbers, stunning costumes, and immersive theatrical effects.

Evening Hours Get a Tweak

Hollywood Studios’ extended evening hours for deluxe resort guests are staying, but the schedule is shifting to select dates rather than a consistent weekly slot. One confirmed evening is Wednesday, October 15, with additional nights likely to be announced.

These bonus hours give guests extra time to enjoy popular attractions with lighter lines, making them a valuable perk for those who plan ahead. Checking the official Disney calendar before booking park days will help ensure your visit aligns with these exclusive late-night sessions.
