Disney World May Soon Upcharge Families by Over $100 a Day

Disney World’s “most magical place on earth” image has slowly been joined by a new reputation: one of the most expensive vacations a family can take. Now, with a small but significant change to Lightning Lane Multi Pass, some families could soon find themselves paying over $100 extra per day — just to skip lines.

A System Built for Price Hikes

Lightning Lane Multi Pass debuted in 2024 as the replacement for Genie+, allowing guests to pre-book three rides and then add more as the day goes on. Pricing varies depending on park and date, which means busy seasons already come with a higher cost.

Looking back at Genie+, which doubled in price in less than two years, it’s easy to see where Multi Pass could be headed. This first year is likely the “introductory” phase, with prices rising once guests are comfortable with the system.

The Trigger: A New Attraction Joins the List

On September 11, The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure will be added to Multi Pass as a tier two choice. It’s not in the top tier of rides, but it’s popular with families, making the pass more attractive overall.

This follows a familiar Disney pattern — add more options, declare the pass more valuable, and then increase the price. More value for guests often comes with more revenue for Disney.

Doing the Math

Right now, busy days see Multi Pass prices as high as $39 per person. Even if the average price settles around $30, that’s $120 a day for a family of four before tax. Add individual Lightning Lane passes for rides not included in Multi Pass, and you’re quickly in $150-a-day territory for line-skipping alone.

Multiply that by a weeklong vacation, and you’re looking at a possible $800–$1,000 extra just for this one convenience.

Why Disney Will Push Forward

Disney has seen time and again that guests will pay for ways to save time in the parks. And once a family has budgeted thousands for the trip, an extra daily fee feels like a small trade for avoiding long waits. With the ability to pre-purchase, Disney ensures that money is in the bank before you even scan your ticket.

In short: Disney’s newest addition to Lightning Lane Multi Pass could pave the way for another round of price hikes, and for some families, that means a daily fee topping $100.

A frequent visitor of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort, Andrew will likely be found freefalling on Twilight Zone Tower of Terror or enjoying Pirates of the Caribbean. Over at Universal, he'll be taking in the thrills of the Jurassic World Velocicoaster and Revenge of the Mummy
