Universal Orlando Resort is giving one of its original Islands of Adventure attractions considerably more attention than guests typically see during a routine refurbishment.
Jurassic Park River Adventure has remained closed throughout most of 2026, and the work isn't finished yet. With Universal currently targeting November 20 for the attraction's return, crews are continuing to replace and rebuild portions of the water ride.

The project doesn't amount to a replacement of Jurassic Park River Adventure itself. Instead, Universal appears focused on replacing aging components while keeping the attraction guests have known since Islands of Adventure opened.
Latest Look Shows Queue Work Still Underway
Jurassic Park River Adventure closed on January 5, beginning what will become a closure of more than 10 months if it reopens as scheduled.
Recently, a guest shared a photo showing that crews remain busy around the attraction's queue.
“The Jurassic River Adventure queue is still being heavily worked on. Hope its still on track for November,” the guest said.

With roughly three months remaining until November 20, the amount of visible construction naturally raises questions about the timeline.
However, the queue is only one piece of a much larger refurbishment that has been happening throughout the year.
Universal Is Replacing Parts, Not the Entire Ride
Considering how long Jurassic Park River Adventure has been unavailable, some guests may have expected a much larger transformation.
That's not what's happening.
Jurassic Park River Adventure is expected to remain Jurassic Park River Adventure. Universal hasn't announced plans to replace the attraction with another ride or completely change its identity.
Instead, the company is putting considerable work into what is already there.
Permits and aerial tracking have shown work involving ride systems, rockwork, and dinosaur animatronics. Some of the attraction's animatronics have essentially been rebuilt as Universal works to refresh elements that have operated for years.
That could make this refurbishment much more noticeable than a standard maintenance closure once guests finally return.
Jurassic Park River Adventure Needs Its Dinosaurs
The animatronic work is particularly important for this attraction.
Jurassic Park River Adventure doesn't rely solely on screens or projections to create its biggest moments. Physical dinosaurs remain a major part of the experience as boats move deeper into Jurassic Park before things inevitably go wrong.
Those figures have been operating for decades, making extensive maintenance and replacement work increasingly important.
Universal also has the advantage of addressing several areas simultaneously because the attraction is already closed for such an extended period.
Along with the dinosaurs and ride systems, crews can work on environmental elements and the queue without repeatedly taking the attraction offline.
November 20 Is Getting Closer
The question now is whether everything will be finished on time.
Universal has kept specific details about the refurbishment relatively limited, and the amount of construction visible around the queue makes the remaining timeline worth watching.
Still, three months can represent a significant amount of time on a construction project. Visible work could also move quickly once crews reach the finishing stages.
Assuming Universal maintains its current schedule, Jurassic Park River Adventure will reopen November 20, 2026.
That would end a closure that began January 5 and lasted more than 10 months.
Guests shouldn't expect an entirely different Jurassic Park River Adventure when the walls finally come down. But after extensive work on dinosaurs, ride systems, rockwork, and portions of the queue, they may find an attraction that looks and operates noticeably refreshed.
For now, Universal has a little more work to do before the dinosaurs can welcome guests back.
