Universal Orlando Resort isn't simply giving Jurassic Park River Adventure a routine tune-up. As construction continues behind the walls at Islands of Adventure, another original feature of the attraction has officially been replaced, adding to what has become one of the ride's most extensive refurbishments since it first opened.
With the attraction closed for most of 2026, Universal has been steadily tackling projects both guests and construction watchers have noticed. Each new update paints a clearer picture of just how ambitious the overhaul has become.
The latest work shifts attention away from the ride itself and toward the attraction's iconic entrance, proving that this refurbishment stretches well beyond mechanical improvements.

Another Original Piece Is Being Replaced
Nearly 27 years after Jurassic Park River Adventure welcomed its first guests, crews have removed much of the original roofing from the attraction's entrance. Construction photos show the familiar tan shingles stripped away across much of the structure, exposing black sheathing underneath while portions of the decorative green roof remain in place near the top.
The work doesn't stop there.
Jurassic Outfitters, the attraction's exit gift shop, is also receiving a new roof. Workers have removed the aging exterior materials, replacing them with fresh weatherproof sheathing as refurbishment continues throughout the area.
Although these aren't changes guests will immediately notice once the attraction reopens, replacing decades-old exterior elements should help preserve one of Islands of Adventure's most recognizable themed environments.
This Refurbishment Keeps Growing
The entrance roof is only one piece of a much larger construction project.
Earlier in the refurbishment, crews were spotted replacing sections of Jurassic Park River Adventure's ride track, another significant investment that suggested Universal was addressing long-term infrastructure rather than performing basic maintenance.
When combined with the ongoing work at Jurassic Outfitters and the newly replaced entrance roof, it's clear the company is using this lengthy closure to complete multiple projects simultaneously.
That approach makes sense for an attraction approaching its third decade of operation. Instead of bringing the ride down repeatedly over several years, Universal appears to be refreshing several major components during one extended closure.

For fans, that's an encouraging sign. Jurassic Park River Adventure continues to anchor the Jurassic Park area alongside newer additions like VelociCoaster, and Universal's investment suggests the classic water ride remains an important part of the park's future.
Guests Will Have To Wait Until November
Jurassic Park River Adventure closed in early January and remains unavailable as construction continues. According to Universal Orlando's current refurbishment schedule, the attraction is expected to stay closed through November 19 before reopening on November 20, assuming construction stays on schedule.
While waiting nearly a full year has tested guests' patience, the amount of visible work taking place helps explain why Universal opted for such a lengthy refurbishment.
Rather than patching individual problems, the resort appears committed to giving the attraction a comprehensive refresh that should benefit guests for years after it returns.

Other Closures To Know at Universal Orlando Resort
Jurassic Park River Adventure may be the most noticeable refurbishment happening at Universal Orlando Resort, but it's far from the only project guests should know about before visiting.
At Universal Studios Florida, Universal Orlando's Horror Make-Up Show remains closed for an extensive refurbishment that began earlier this year. The longtime live show is currently expected to reopen during Winter 2026. Finnegan's Bar & Grill is also undergoing a major renovation after closing in January for structural and interior improvements, with a reopening likewise planned for Winter 2026.
In DreamWorks Land, Po's Kung Fu Training Camp and Po Live! are temporarily unavailable while Universal completes minor adjustments. Both experiences are scheduled to reopen on July 4.
Meanwhile, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is no longer part of Universal Studios Florida's lineup. The coaster permanently closed in August 2025 as Universal prepares the area for a future attraction.
Over at Islands of Adventure, Pteranodon Flyers is also wrapping up a lengthy refurbishment. The family attraction is currently scheduled to reopen on July 3, giving Jurassic Park fans another ride to look forward to while River Adventure remains closed.
Looking ahead to the fall, guests should also be aware that Universal Volcano Bay will begin an extended operational closure on October 26. The water park is scheduled to remain closed for more than five months before reopening on April 1, 2027.
Construction projects are a normal part of operating a destination as large as Universal Orlando Resort. Still, the amount of work taking place across multiple parks makes it especially important for guests to check the latest refurbishment calendar before arriving. By the time Jurassic Park River Adventure splashes back to life in November, it should return with far more behind-the-scenes improvements than many visitors ever expected.
