Something Big Is Coming This Summer to Universal

Universal Studios Hollywood is rolling out its red carpet for the new Universal Mega Movie Summer event, running June 13 through August 10. Designed to celebrate some of Universal’s most iconic films, this new seasonal experience blends upgraded attractions, special entertainment, and exclusive food offerings for a summer that’s equal parts thrilling and cinematic.

And leading the charge? A fierce new finale to Jurassic World—The Ride that promises to leave guests soaked—and speechless.

Timed with the upcoming theatrical release of Jurassic World: Rebirth on July 2, Universal has unleashed a major enhancement to one of its most beloved rides. The updated Jurassic World—The Ride now features a Mosasaurus Splash finale, throwing guests into a high-stakes aquatic encounter that’s more intense—and wetter—than ever before.

In addition to this high-impact update, guests will encounter a brand-new dinosaur character alongside returning fan favorites like Blue the Velociraptor and Baby Raptor Tango. A themed scavenger hunt across Isla Nublar will keep explorers on their toes, while refreshed food offerings at Jurassic Café and Isla Nubar bring a bite of summer to the table.

Universal Mega Movie Summer: Celebrating the Studio’s Legacy

Beyond the Jurassic thrills, the Mega Movie Summer event honors a wide range of Universal’s most celebrated films with immersive experiences and limited-time surprises throughout the park.

The shark that started it all is back in the spotlight. For the 50th anniversary of Jaws, Universal is bringing themed characters like Captain Quint and Chief Brody to life in the park, alongside the return of the iconic hanging shark photo op.

Even the Studio Tour will nod to the occasion with themed moments at Jaws Lake and the replica Hollywood sign.

Themed food will take over the newly rethemed Amity Island Café, where guests can dive into dishes like:

  • Lobster Roll

  • Vegan Crab Cake Sandwich

  • Shark Bait Burger

  • Fish & Chips

  • Shark Fin Funnel Cake

Back to the Future Hits 40 Years

Celebrating four decades of time travel, Back to the Future fans can meet characters from the franchise, snap photos with themed displays, and enjoy retro treats like the Flux Capacitor Patty Melt and the Outatime Cookie at Mel’s Diner.

A one-night-only screening of the original film will also hit Universal Cinema on July 3. Ahead of its highly anticipated film release, Universal is teasing Wicked with a Glinda and Elphaba photo op near the entrance of the park, offering fans a colorful, spellbinding experience that previews what’s to come.

Fans of How to Train Your Dragon will find Toothless towering over Universal Plaza—a 6-foot-tall, 24-foot-long sculpture of the beloved Night Fury. Limited-edition snacks like Toothless and Light Fury cookies and a collectible Toothless popcorn bucket round out the dragon-sized celebration.

Although Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift doesn’t open until 2026, fans can get a first look at the upcoming coaster thanks to a ride vehicle display modeled after Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger.

Universal Studios Hollywood: A Blockbuster Summer You Can Step Into

Outside the theme park, Universal CityWalk Hollywood will also participate in the festivities. Expect live DJs, themed merchandise, and costume displays from Jurassic World: Rebirth and How to Train Your Dragon at Universal Cinema.

From prehistoric powerhouses and great white sharks to time-traveling DeLoreans and high-flying dragons, Universal Studios Hollywood’s Mega Movie Summer is more than a seasonal celebration—it’s a tribute to movie magic itself.

With so many new things to see, eat, and experience, this limited-time event sets the stage for an unforgettable summer. Whether you’re reliving your favorite films or stepping into them for the first time, one thing’s for sure: the cameras may stop rolling, but the adventure never ends.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
