Cinderella Cut From Disney World, Princess Tiana Takes Over Classic Role

A curious glitch inside Walt Disney World’s My Disney Experience app has caught the attention of Disney fans this week, with social media feeds filling up with screenshots of characters that appear to be swapping identities.

Instead of seeing their usual favorite icons in the app, guests have spotted mash-ups that don’t exist anywhere in Disney’s official lineup — and the results have been equal parts confusing and entertaining.

The Unexpected Mash-Ups

Posts on X (formerly Twitter) highlight just how unusual the bug has been. Some of the most widely shared character swaps include:

  • Belle shown as Tramp

  • Buzz Lightyear appearing as Yoda

  • C-3PO swapped with Winnie the Pooh

  • Aladdin turning into Nemo

  • Alice displayed as Nick Wilde

  • Mickey Mouse replaced by Pocahontas

  • Squirt listed as Princess Aurora

  • Cinderella showing up as Princess Tiana

  • Darth Vader matched with the Queen of Hearts

  • Cruella paired with Princess Jasmine

Individually, each of these mismatches might pass as a simple error. But the variety and frequency of swaps have turned the glitch into an internet-wide talking point, with fans joking about the “multiverse” colliding inside Disney’s own app.

We noticed this after Heather took to X to share a screenshot of her My Disney Experience, “Me: Maybe I’ll update my character in MDE. *Logs in to see choices*”, to which Travel Hacker TM shared their MDE options:

The My Disney Experience app is the official planning and management tool for Walt Disney World vacations. It has become indispensable for most guests visiting the Florida resort, combining essential park information and trip-planning features into one platform.

Key functions include:

  • Viewing wait times for attractions at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

  • Checking daily park hours and entertainment schedules.

  • Accessing virtual queues for select rides.

  • Booking and adjusting Lightning Lane Multi Pass reservations for quicker entry to attractions.

  • Mobile food and beverage ordering at many restaurants.

  • Viewing and downloading Disney PhotoPass pictures.

  • Unlocking Disney Resort hotel rooms with a phone’s digital key.

  • Navigating the parks with real-time maps and step-by-step directions.

Originally launched alongside MagicBands in 2013, the app has grown into a core part of the Walt Disney World experience, bridging physical and digital visits to make trips more customizable.

Why a Glitch Like This Can Happen

Disney has not issued an official explanation for the character swap bug, but the issue likely stems from image data loading incorrectly. The My Disney Experience app manages a vast library of characters, attraction details, and media assets. If the system briefly mismatches those assets, it can result in unusual pairings — such as a princess appearing under the name of a villain or a Star Wars droid suddenly displaying as a classic bear in a red shirt.

These types of technical hiccups are usually resolved quickly, but in this case, the oddity was widespread enough for guests to take notice and share widely online.

A Glimpse at Disney’s Digital Reliance

The episode serves as a reminder of just how important My Disney Experience has become for Walt Disney World visitors. Beyond park planning, the app increasingly acts as a digital companion that is deeply tied to the in-park experience.

Disney has consistently expanded its digital tools in recent years — from introducing the Lightning Lane Multi Pass system to mobile ordering and new wearable integrations through MagicBand+. These innovations underscore the company’s focus on blending technology into the theme park experience.

As useful as the app is, its occasional glitches highlight the complexity of maintaining a platform that serves millions of users daily.

A Harmless and Memorable Bug

Unlike technical issues that prevent reservations or bookings, this particular glitch has had no negative impact on guests’ ability to enjoy their trips. Instead, it has provided an unexpected source of fun — a digital Easter egg that popped up without warning.

The bug will almost certainly be fixed soon, but for now, it remains a curious reminder that even Disney’s most polished tools can occasionally deliver surprises.

The My Disney Experience app is meant to streamline the guest journey at Walt Disney World, offering planning, navigation, and convenience at the touch of a button. But every now and then, as this latest glitch proves, it can also deliver a little unplanned entertainment.

While Belle-as-Tramp and Mickey-as-Pocahontas may never appear on Main Street, U.S.A., they’ll live on as one of the strangest — and funniest — quirks the app has ever produced.
