Disney’s Hollywood Studios is preparing for a significant evolution. A Monsters, Inc.-themed land is set to replace the park’s Grand Avenue area, while Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will swap out its Aerosmith overlay for a new Muppets concept. Ahead of those updates, Star Wars Launch Bay will become The Magic of Disney Animation, a celebration of animated classics throughout the decades.
Even with these changes on the horizon, the park continues to offer plenty of entertainment, including its long-running nighttime spectacular: Fantasmic!.

First introduced in the 1990s, Fantasmic! remains a hallmark of the park’s entertainment. The show transports audiences inside Mickey Mouse’s imagination, combining pyrotechnics, character appearances, and projection effects across a sweeping stage. The story moves from whimsical to thrilling as Disney villains such as the Evil Queen and Maleficent take over, culminating in Mickey’s fiery battle against a massive dragon. The finale brings together heroes from across Disney’s history for a triumphant close.
On Thursday, August 28, though, weather conditions disrupted the performance. Inside the Magic reported that guests were held outside the amphitheater until 8:30 p.m., the usual start time, and the show began half an hour later at 9 p.m. One attendee shared that the line of hopeful guests stretched down Sunset Boulevard to the Chinese Theatre. A photo taken that night captured the amphitheater looking unusually empty compared to its typical capacity crowds.

The show has seen notable updates in recent years. Following an extended closure, Fantasmic! returned in November 2022 with new choreography, upgraded effects, and scenes featuring Moana, Frozen, Mulan, and Pocahontas, adding contemporary moments while keeping the heart of the original intact. Depending on the season, guests may enjoy the show once or twice nightly, and those booking dining packages can access reserved seating with optimal views.
Even as weather interruptions occasionally affect the schedule, Fantasmic! continues to hold its place as a central highlight of a visit to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With new lands and reimagined attractions soon to arrive, the park remains in a moment of transition, balancing beloved traditions with a fresh future ahead.
