What’s Going on at Animal Kingdom? Disney Installs Barricades Overnight

There’s been some quiet activity at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and fans are buzzing with questions. Over the weekend, Walt Disney World Resort made a move that has guests wondering about what’s next for the fourth Central Florida Disney park.

On September 8, WDWNT reported that crews officially installed a sign for “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!”, a new show coming to the Tree of Life Theater on Discovery Island. The 3-D show is replacing It’s Tough to Be a Bug!, an opening-day attraction that closed on March 16, 2025.

As is often the case with ongoing Disney Park projects, the newly-installed sign wasn’t fully visible to guests. Crews covered it with a black tarp, which billowed over the existing construction walls and barricades. The only clue to its design was a few black poles that poked out from beneath the tarp, suggesting that the final design was still in progress and some decorative features hadn’t been installed yet. It’s not uncommon for Disney to keep their projects under wraps until they’re ready for a grand reveal, and this was no exception.

But the story doesn’t end with the installation of the sign. On Saturday, X (formerly known as Twitter) user @evanpatel11 shared a photo showing just how much the construction near the Tree of Life had intensified. What started as a simple installation of a sign soon turned into a full-on barricade overhaul.

The scrim up around the new Zootopia marquee is insane… somehow it like tripled in size and is absolutely huge now. What does this mean? No idea

Bulky scaffolding now spans the entire sign, surrounding the entrance to the new attraction. The scaffolding is covered with tan scrim, concealing the whole construction site.

While it’s unclear exactly why the barricades are growing in size, it could be that Disney needed more space to accommodate the design and infrastructure for the new attraction entrance. Or perhaps, as Disney is known to do, they want to ensure that no peeking guests get an early look at the new sign and its features before an official reveal.

The big reveal for “Zootopia: Better Zoogether!” is set for November 7, 2025, and it will coincide with the release of Zootopia 2 on November 26, 2025. The show will celebrate Zootopia Day, with animal performances, including the iconic Gazelle. Ginnifer Goodwin will reprise her role as the voice of Judy Hopps and is expected to perform a brand-new song for the show. The attraction may feature an advanced Clawhauser audio-animatronic, similar to the one at Shanghai Disneyland’s Zootopia: Hot Pursuit attraction.
