Disneyland Fans React To Phone Ban Within Park

This Attraction Will Not Allow You To Record Anymore

Disneyland has informed millions of guests that their phones will not be permitted for use in a specific area.

Disneyland Guests Shocked Over Phone Ban

A line that once felt like a whimsical journey through Toontown now comes with a surprising twist. Guests waiting for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland recently noticed that part of the queue has reopened after more than two years—and it looks very different. Walls, shades, and exposed backstage areas replace some of the immersive decor, giving visitors an unusual peek behind the magic.

Even more striking is a new rule Disney has rolled out: no holding cell phones, cameras, or other loose items while on the ride. Cast Members are actively monitoring compliance, and rides have even been stopped mid-cycle when guests are spotted with unsecure belongings.

For anyone planning a visit, these updates may be confusing—but understanding them can make your experience smoother, safer, and more enjoyable.

Extended Queue Returns

The extended queue debuted briefly in January 2023, shortly after the ride’s opening, as a temporary solution when virtual queues were paused. It closed soon after and remained unused for more than two years. Recently, Disney began using it again, moving guests from the indoor theater-style queue into an outdoor holding area.

The area is functional rather than decorative: shades cover guests from sun and rain, tall walls line the space, and lights are mounted overhead. An emergency exit is tucked into a corner. Unlike the original queue, the outdoor section leaves you exposed to views of backstage buildings, including offices above the Runaway Railway show area, “it’s a small world,” Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin, the Matterhorn, and even the Team Disney Anaheim building.

No More Holding Phones or Loose Items

The new personal item rule is strict:

“Secure all personal belongings prior to boarding. Hand-held or loose items, including cell phones, are not permitted to be held while riding.”

Cast Members are checking guests carefully, and the ride can be paused if someone doesn’t comply. This change came shortly after Disney released an official POV video on Disney+, signaling the company’s focus on ride safety and controlling the guest experience online.

Tips for Navigating the Queue

  • Arrive Early: Mornings are typically less crowded, and early entry helps avoid long lines in the outdoor section.

  • Secure Your Belongings: Pockets, backpacks, or lockers with zippers are your best bet for keeping items safe.

  • Use the App: Disneyland’s mobile app shows real-time wait times, helping you pick the most efficient window to ride.

Insider Tricks for Real Disney Fans

  • Photo Opportunities: You can still take photos in the indoor queue or just before entering the outdoor section.

  • Observe the Backstage: Frequent visitors note that the new view offers a rare look at areas normally hidden from guests.

  • Beat the Crowds: Lines are often shorter immediately after parades or character meet-and-greets.

Why This Matters

For many fans, the extended queue and stricter rules are more than just operational changes—they’re a cultural moment. Social media is buzzing with reactions, from amusement at the exposed backstage areas to frustration over the interrupted immersion.

Still, the ride’s popularity remains high, demonstrating that even with these tweaks, guests are eager to experience Mickey & Minnie’s zany adventures. Historical attendance and wait-time data show the attraction consistently draws strong crowds, making these small adjustments a minor inconvenience for most visitors.

Disneyland Fan Reactions

Disney enthusiasts have had mixed feelings. Some appreciate the peek behind the curtain, calling it a “fascinating behind-the-scenes look.” Others lament the lack of thematic continuity. Regardless, nearly everyone agrees: knowing the rules and timing your visit makes all the difference.

Disneyland’s Runaway Railway remains a must-ride attraction, but the reopened extended queue and new cell phone rules mean preparation is key. Arrive early, secure your belongings, and enjoy the ride—you’ll still find all the charm, humor, and heart that make this one of the park’s standout experiences.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
