Rapunzel’s Tower Is Finally Coming to Disneyland: Here’s What You Need to Know

For years, fans of Tangled have been asking: when will Rapunzel officially join the list of characters featured in Disneyland’s rides? The answer is: this winter. And while the addition may be small in size, it’s big in significance.

Disney has officially confirmed that Rapunzel’s tower will become part of the classic Storybook Land Canal Boats attraction at Disneyland Park in California. This marks the very first time any Tangled-themed scene has been added to a Disneyland ride—joining a lineup of fairy tale-inspired scenes that date back to the park’s earliest years.

Miniature Magic Gets a Tangled Twist

If you’ve ever drifted along the calm waters of Storybook Land Canal Boats, you know how much attention to detail goes into each and every scene. From the tiny doors on the buildings to the carefully trimmed hedges, the ride is a love letter to Disney’s animated classics, all shrunk down to a beautiful, handcrafted scale.

Disney Parks (@DisneyParks) shared the news on X posting the concept art and stating, “Storybook Land is getting more miniature magic 💜☀️ Rapunzel’s Tower will debut in Storybook Land Canal Boats at

Now, Rapunzel is getting the same treatment.

The new Tangled scene will feature Rapunzel’s tower, perched high among greenery with windows peeking out from its signature stonework turret. It will be located between the Patchwork Quilt hills and Toad Hall, fitting naturally into the canal's fairytale landscape.

The surrounding area will include wanted posters featuring none other than Flynn Rider, and in a clever nod to the film, none of the artists seem to agree on what his nose looks like—just like in Tangled.

A Scene That Changes with the Time of Day

Disney has always been about storytelling through atmosphere, and the new Rapunzel scene brings that to life both day and night.

During the day, guests will hear “When Will My Life Begin?” playing softly as they pass, instantly transporting them into the world of Rapunzel’s tower-bound routines. At night, the experience transforms: soft, twinkling lights will glow around the dock (modeled after the boat scene from the movie), and “I See the Light” will play in the background—inviting guests into the unforgettable lantern-lit moment from the film.

From concept art and details shared by Disney, this scene is going to be one of the most immersive additions to the attraction in years.

The First Tangled Ride Element at Disneyland

Believe it or not, Disneyland has never featured a ride with elements from Tangled—until now. The film has representation through character appearances and thematic restrooms, but nothing ride-related.

Tokyo DisneySea was the first Disney park to give Tangled a proper attraction with the recent opening of Rapunzel’s Lantern Festival, a full-fledged boat ride through Rapunzel’s story as part of the Fantasy Springs expansion. And soon, Walt Disney Studios Park in Paris will also debut a Tangled ride.

But California has had to wait. This new tower isn’t a full attraction, but it is a major milestone.

A Ride with Deep Disneyland Roots

The Storybook Land Canal Boats ride has a rich history that stretches back to Disneyland’s earliest days. When it opened on July 17, 1955, it was originally called “Canal Boats of the World.” The current version, which showcases miniature villages from beloved Disney stories, opened in 1956 and has remained a fan favorite ever since.

The ride’s evolution reflects Disney’s ongoing commitment to blending nostalgia with modern storytelling. Over the years, new scenes have been added to reflect more recent animated films like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Frozen—always in keeping with the miniature, lovingly crafted aesthetic.

Walt Disney himself was fascinated by miniatures, and that passion is woven into the DNA of this attraction. The addition of Rapunzel’s tower is a continuation of that legacy.

Hidden Details and Fun Touches

Storybook Land Canal Boats is full of small details that reward repeat rides, and this new scene promises to carry on that tradition. Keep an eye out for:

  • A boat dock modeled after the lantern scene

  • Lantern lights that glow at night

  • Wanted posters with hilarious Flynn Rider illustrations

  • Custom music loops based on time of day

Also worth noting: the boats themselves each have unique character names from Disney films. See which one you board next time!

And don’t miss the subtle soot marks inside Monstro’s mouth at the beginning of the ride — a clever callback to Pinocchio, when the characters escaped by lighting a fire.

Part of Disneyland’s 70th Anniversary

This addition is launching as part of Disneyland’s 70th anniversary celebration, and it fits perfectly with the celebration’s tone: honoring classic attractions while introducing new storytelling magic. Even though this is a small-scale change, it speaks volumes about the care Imagineers put into every corner of the park.

The fact that Disney is adding something new to one of its oldest attractions proves just how timeless Storybook Land remains. It’s not just a boat ride — it’s a journey through the heart of Disney storytelling.

Could this be a signal that more Tangled experiences are coming to Disneyland? That remains to be seen. But fans of the film finally have something new to look forward to.

And if this is your first visit to Storybook Land in a while, you might be surprised by how much there is to discover. From Cinderella’s castle to the Cave of Wonders, the attraction remains one of the park’s hidden gems — and now, it’s shining just a little bit brighter.

We’ll be keeping an eye on construction progress and will update you as soon as an opening date is announced. Until then, keep those lanterns lit, and get ready to see Rapunzel take her place in Disneyland history.
