Disney Plots a Major ‘Percy Jackson’ Expansion Fans Didn’t See Coming

Disney may be preparing to crown a new franchise champion. After conquering galaxies with Star Wars and rewriting superhero cinema with Marvel, the studio’s next big success could come from ancient mythology. Percy Jackson and the Olympians has emerged as a breakout hit for Disney+, and whispers of expansion are already stirring excitement across the fandom.

From the outside, it appears that Disney views Percy Jackson as more than just a streaming hit—it’s a cornerstone for an expanding mythology universe that could shape the studio’s future.

From Page to Phenomenon

Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson novels changed modern fantasy forever. The series blended Greek mythology with the everyday struggles of teenage life. Readers instantly connected with Percy’s humor, courage, and humanity. When Hollywood first adapted the books, fans were disappointed. The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters missed the charm and depth of Riordan’s writing. As a result, Riordan distanced himself from the movies.

Disney’s 2023 revival changed everything. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series gave Riordan full creative control. That freedom resulted in a faithful adaptation true to the original books. Both longtime fans and newcomers embraced the show. Its eight episodes quickly rose among Disney+’s top performers. The success proved one thing clearly—there’s still plenty of magic at Camp Half-Blood.

Season 2 and Beyond

With the Sea of Monsters adaptation set for release on December 10, 2025, and a third season already underway, Disney’s investment is clear. But it’s Riordan’s comments that have fans buzzing the most. At Lucca Comics & Games 2025, he revealed, “At the moment, we are working on the third season of the TV series. I’m also working on a new series, which I can’t talk much about here. But there are more and more stories to tell.”

That tease sparked immediate speculation. Could Riordan and Disney be planning an interconnected mythology world? Many fans believe so—and they may not be far off.

A New Mystery on the Horizon

Riordan hinted that his secret project might be connected to The Kane Chronicles, a trilogy that explores Egyptian mythology through the siblings Carter and Sadie Kane. Their adventures take place in the same world as Percy’s, creating natural crossover potential. Netflix once attempted to adapt the series into live-action films, but those plans collapsed. Riordan himself later confirmed the cancellation, disappointing fans eager to see the Egyptian gods come to life.

Now, Disney may be ready to give the idea another chance. With Percy Jackson thriving on Disney+, the stage is perfectly set for a new mythology-driven expansion.

Disney’s Mythology Universe

If Disney goes all in on what fans call the “Riordanverse,” the possibilities are endless. Riordan’s stories already link Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Norse myths through series like Heroes of OlympusMagnus Chase, and The Trials of Apollo. Bringing them together on Disney+ could create a mythology epic to rival Marvel’s superhero saga.

Though no official confirmation exists, Riordan’s enthusiasm says it all—he’s not finished building his universe. As Percy Jackson continues to dominate Disney+, fans are beginning to dream bigger. The demigods’ world feels ready to expand in ways no one imagined, and Disney might just be the one to make it happen.

The Riordanverse is calling—and Disney appears to be listening.
