Islands of Adventure To Witness Cleansing Thanks to New Permit

A hushed buzz is circulating among theme park insiders—a ripple that could soon turn into a wave. Guests wandering through Islands of Adventure might notice nothing unusual today, but behind the scenes, plans are quietly moving forward that could dramatically reshape the park. Which area might be on the chopping block, and how will it affect the future of Universal Orlando?

The answer isn’t immediately clear, but one thing is certain: fans have reason to pay close attention.

A Permit Hints at Change

Universal Orlando has recently filed a Notice of Commencement with Orange County officials, signaling the start of pre-construction services inside Islands of Adventure. The filing lists PCL Construction as the contractor and labels the project as “Pre-Construction Services”—an industry term for early work that precedes major construction, including surveying, utility setup, and potential demolition.

While the permit doesn’t specify which land or attraction is involved, insiders point to two major possibilities: The Lost Continent, which Universal has already indicated will see construction activity soon, or Jurassic Park River Adventure, set for a massive 2026 refurbishment.

Which Lands Could Be Impacted?

Among Universal fans, speculation is heating up around three primary areas:

  • The Lost Continent: Aging attractions and confirmed construction make this land a prime candidate for transformation.

  • Toon Lagoon: Another older area with potential for reimagining, possibly making way for fresh attractions.

  • Marvel Super Hero Island: Still a fan favorite, though licensing agreements may influence long-term changes.

While Universal hasn’t revealed specifics, the permit signals that significant updates may be closer than many expect.

A Sign of Broader Plans

This pre-construction filing isn’t just about one land—it’s a hint at Universal Orlando’s larger strategy. The resort is aggressively expanding, and the news from Islands of Adventure coincides with updates from Epic Universe, which opened in May 2025. Remarkably, the new park is already preparing for its first expansion, just six months after opening, with “exciting additions” confirmed in recently filed permits.

These moves suggest Universal is preparing not just for today, but for the next decade of growth. The resort appears focused on balancing the guest experience across multiple parks while creating new, immersive lands that keep visitors returning.

What This Means for Guests

For those planning trips to Islands of Adventure, the impact could be noticeable. Changes may include:

  • Altered guest flow and navigation within affected lands

  • Temporary ride closures or reroutes

  • Introduction of new attractions replacing older, less-trafficked areas

  • Enhanced, updated experiences that align with Universal’s broader expansion plans

Permits like this rarely appear without intent, signaling that Universal’s vision for the park is moving from concept to reality.

Looking to the Future

The next few years could bring some of the most dramatic transformations in Islands of Adventure history. While it remains unclear which land will be affected first, the pre-construction work confirms that changes are imminent.

For Universal fans, this is both exciting and bittersweet: it’s an opportunity to experience beloved lands before they evolve, while anticipating the resort’s next major chapters. One thing is certain—Islands of Adventure is on the brink of a new era, and the coming transformations could redefine the park for generations of visitors.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
