Universal has spent the past decade replacing older theater shows with newer, more flexible attractions. Few have lasted through that transition, and even fewer still operate today. Shrek 4-D is one of the rare exceptions.
Only two parks still run the attraction in any form. Universal Studios Singapore operates it full-time, while Universal Studios Japan brings it back on an off-and-on basis during limited windows.

Now, even that limited presence is about to shrink again.
Shrek 4-D Adventure Faces Another Indefinite Closure
Universal will soon say goodbye to one of its remaining DreamWorks-era staples on an indefinite basis.
Years after the latest Shrek film hit theaters (although fans can expect Shrek 5 in 2027), the franchise still maintains a presence across Universal parks. Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood may have retired Shrek 4-D, but the characters continue in DreamWorks Land at Universal Studios Florida.

Universal Studios Singapore holds the largest footprint, with Far Far Away offering Shrek 4-D, Enchanted Airways, and Puss in Bootsā Giant Journey. That leaves Universal Studios Japan as one of only two parks where the 4-D show still operates ā though not for much longer.
Universal Studios Japan has updated its refurbishment calendar to show that Shrek's 4-D Adventure ā along with Sesame Street 4-D Movie Magic ā will close beginning January 9, 2026. Universal has not provided a reopening date. The closure is listed as āindefinite,ā echoing extended pauses used in recent years.
The attraction has already endured substantial downtime. Shrek's 4-D Adventure and Sesame Street 4-D Movie Magic previously spent three years offline before slowly returning. This new break follows a brief reopening period. Shrek's 4-D Adventure only returned on November 19 after being closed since January 23, 2025.

The original appeal of Shrek 4-D still resonates with longtime visitors. The show serves as a short post-Shrek adventure featuring Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and the returning voice cast. Despite its age, the combination of humor and practical effects kept the theater consistently active.
Universal Studios Japan Manages Multiple Closures
The upcoming closure lands during a wider stretch of refurbishments across Universal Studios Japan. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is currently off limits from November 7 to December 4. The Hogwarts Castle Walk remains available during its downtime.
Universal Monsters Live: Rock and Roll Show is closed from November 4 through December 1. Moppy's Balloon Trip is unavailable from November 16 to November 22. Elmo's Go-Go Skateboard is closed between November 26 and December 17. Ernie's Rubber Duckie Race and Sesame's Big Drive have remained closed since June 2020.

Space Fantasy ā The Ride has also cycled through closures tied to rotating overlays. After last operating in its standard form in June, it is scheduled to debut Space Fantasy ā The Ride: CLUB ZEDD REMIX from January 30 through August 17, 2026. The park says guests will “step inside where powerful music and light take you to spectacular outer space!”
Universal Studios Japan has not announced plans for the Shrek 4-D theater. It may return, remain dormant, or shift to seasonal programming aligned with the parkās growing anime lineup. For now, its status mirrors many of the parkās older offerings ā still present, but increasingly uncertain.
