Major Tree Removal at Universal Orlando Fuels Speculation Over New Land

It’s been a long time coming, but real change finally appears to be underway at Lost Continent inside Universal’s Islands of Adventure. While nothing has been officially announced yet, guests and fans are noticing a major shift—quite literally—in the landscape.

Aerial photography revealed that a significant number of trees have been cleared from a backstage portion of the land, specifically between the Poseidon’s Fury show building and the Sindbad theater, both of which have been out of operation for some time. This activity isn’t just a coincidence. It aligns with previous statements from Universal about preparing the land for “future developments.”

This area of the park has been on the chopping block for years. Once a richly themed land inspired by ancient myths, Lost Continent has slowly faded from relevance. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter took over much of its footprint back in 2010, and the land has been quietly shrinking ever since. With the major shows now closed and the area mostly serving as a pass-through, many fans assumed its days were numbered.

Now, with tree removal well underway and a new construction permit filed, the assumption seems more like a certainty. Universal is laying the groundwork—literally and legally—for something new. The permit covers seven acres and includes demolition across five, which makes it unlikely that this is just a small refurbishment.

The tree clearing is one of the first visible signs that a new land could be on the horizon. While there’s been no confirmation, speculation is already heating up. Some believe a Legend of Zelda expansion is headed to the park, giving Nintendo fans another immersive destination. Others point to Pokémon or even The Lord of the Rings as possible contenders.

Whatever is coming, it’s clear Universal is serious about revitalizing its older areas. The Lost Continent hasn’t been living up to its potential for years, but that’s about to change.

It may have started with just a few trees coming down, but that small change speaks volumes. Universal is preparing to bring something brand-new to the heart of Islands of Adventure—and if history is any indication, they’re not going to do it halfway.
