Universal Orlando Resort doesn’t seem interested in slowing down. Epic Universe opened to rave reviews, but insiders already believe the company’s next step could be even bigger. The parks have leaned heavily into blockbuster IP, and that approach has reshaped the conversation about what Universal can accomplish.
The question on every fan’s mind: what franchises are about to get their shot at theme park glory?

Epic Universe as the Spark
When Universal unveiled Epic Universe, it chose carefully. Lands built around Harry Potter and How to Train Your Dragon proved that tapping into passionate fanbases is the key to success. The result has been a tidal wave of guests eager to see their favorite worlds in person.
That same approach is now being eyed for an older section of Islands of Adventure that desperately needs a makeover.

Lost Continent Nears the End
The Lost Continent has seen better days. Once a showcase of mythology and spectacle, the area has slowly dwindled. Attractions closed, shows vanished, and the land now feels like filler compared to the detail elsewhere in the park. With permits filed suggesting demolition, the land’s fate is sealed.
What comes next could be a turning point for Islands of Adventure.

Zelda’s Time to Shine
The strongest rumor surrounds The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo’s reach in Universal parks is growing, and Zelda offers a fantasy world unlike anything else in Orlando. Guests could explore Hyrule, interact with puzzles, and dive into dark dungeons with Link.
Ride concepts could include a story-driven dark ride, while thrill-seekers might get a coaster that mirrors horseback escapes. With decades of fan loyalty and endless merchandise potential, Zelda feels like a sure bet.

A Middle-earth Adventure
Few worlds stir the imagination like Middle-earth. Fans have long dreamed of a land themed to The Lord of the Rings, and Universal might be the one to finally deliver it. The possibilities stretch from gentle strolls through the Shire to intense encounters in Mordor.
Universal could anchor the land with a high-tech coaster inspired by Gandalf’s clash with the Balrog, alongside family-friendly experiences that bring Frodo’s quest to life. Food and merchandise would add to the immersion, making the land a cultural juggernaut.

Seuss Landing Expansion
Then there’s the family angle. Seuss Landing is next door and could easily be expanded to absorb Lost Continent space. The Grinch, already a holiday favorite, could become the star of a year-round Whoville. Interactive attractions and whimsical rides for kids would balance the resort’s lineup, something Universal has often lacked.
Families with toddlers would finally see Universal as more than thrill rides, making it a more innovative alternative to Disney.

More on the Rumor Mill
Alongside these frontrunners, other names circle the rumor mill: Scooby-Doo, Sonic, Pokémon, Wicked, Percy Jackson, or even Nickelodeon-themed attractions. While far from confirmed, they highlight just how many directions Universal could take.
The Bigger Picture
The Lost Continent may soon vanish, but in its place could rise something game-changing. Universal is at its boldest when it bets on beloved IP, and this next expansion could cement its place as Disney’s fiercest rival yet.

All of the above. I really want to see a Grinch expansion in Islands plus conversion of Marvel to DC. Zelda could go into Epic as well and Lord of the Rings. Wicked should go in place of the Toon area in Islands. The Shrek and Kung Fu Panda IPs are wasted in Universal Studios.
