A Beloved Star Wars Ride Is Returning to Disney

There’s something special about the way Disneyland handles its seasonal overlays, but few spark the kind of excitement that surrounds Hyperspace Mountain. The moment Disney confirmed the Star Wars-themed version of the coaster would return in 2026, longtime fans immediately started talking about travel plans, hotel dates, and Lightning Lane strategies. It’s the kind of announcement that instantly awakens the inner Star Wars fan in just about everyone.

The overlay officially returns on April 28, 2026, and, as always, it won’t be around forever. That limited-time factor is part of what makes Hyperspace Mountain so beloved. It’s fast, intense, and packed with action sequences that make the coaster feel like a full-blown cinematic chase. Spaceships roar past, laser blasts illuminate the darkness, and the soundtrack gives the ride a whole new rhythm.

But the timing of this year’s comeback suggests Disney is thinking bigger. Hyperspace Mountain arrives just as Season of the Force ramps up, creating a natural lead-in to the highly anticipated May the 4th festivities. And Disney isn’t being shy about hinting that even more Star Wars updates are coming. The excitement doesn’t feel accidental—it feels coordinated.

Nowhere is that more obvious than in Galaxy’s Edge. The land has remained mostly unchanged since its opening, but that’s about to shift. On May 22, 2026, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will debut an entirely new mission centered around The Mandalorian and Grogu. For the first time, guests will pilot the Falcon on a brand-new adventure tied directly to some of the most popular characters in the modern Star Wars universe.

This update arrives on the exact same day the new Star Wars movie launches in theaters. That synergy—theme park meets cinema—signals a major push to integrate Star Wars storytelling across every platform. Guests could watch the movie and then step straight into a mission featuring the same characters just hours later.

It’s the kind of immersion Disney has always aimed for, and it feels like a spark that could reinvigorate the land. A fresh story means new visuals, new dialogue, and fresh energy flowing through a corner of the park that’s been waiting for something new.

Put Hyperspace Mountain and the Smugglers Run update together, and spring 2026 suddenly looks like a turning point. Star Wars is taking center stage again in a way it hasn’t for several years. And for fans who grew up loving the films, following the shows, and dreaming of stepping into these worlds, it feels like Disneyland is finally leaning all the way in.

Crowds will come, of course—probably in huge waves. But that’s part of the fun. The anticipation, the chatter online, the rush to get that first ride… these moments are what make Disneyland’s seasonal offerings so memorable.

With two major experiences launching within weeks of each other, the only real question is how many times fans will want to ride each one. If history is any indication, the answer is probably “as many as physically possible.”
