One of the really cool things about visiting Disneyland Resort is that, during certain times of the year, classic rides will be completely transformed. In early August, Disney crew members head to New Orleans Square and give The Haunted Mansion a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay, turning it into Haunted Mansion Holiday. Then, when the Christmas season rolls around, “it’s a small world” becomes a festival of lights with “it’s a small world” Holiday.

Before we know it, the new year will be upon us. As in years past, Disneyland will have a number of special celebrations throughout the year. And, beginning in April, Season of the Force will return to Tomorrowland.

Tomorrowland was the first place in Disneyland where guests could become a part of the Star Wars universe. Since 1987, guests would head into Tomorrowland so they could board a Star Tours ship and venture to far-away galaxies, like the moons of Endor. Disney expanded the Star Wars experience when they opened Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019, but Star Tours remained a huge part of Tomorrowland.

In 2016, Disney began celebrating Star Wars in a whole new way when they introduced Season of the Force at Disneyland Resort. At first, the event took place in November, but was then moved to April. Each time Season of the Force came to Disneyland, Imagineers would change the iconic Space Mountain attraction into Hyperspace Mountain.

And now, we can confirm that Hyperspace Mountain will once again return to The Happiest Place on Earth. Disney has said that Season of the Force will return to Disneyland beginning April 5.

And Hyperspace Mountain will not be the only way guests can celebrate the lasting impact of Star Wars.

Season of the Force arrives at Disneyland park with Hyperspace Mountain and specially themed food and beverage, merchandise and more for a limited time. Debuting during the celebration, you’ll be able to embark on new adventures aboard Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will provide fresh perspective on the fireworks above Disneyland park, with galactic music sweeping through the spires.

This is not the first time that Disney has added new scenes to Star Tours. New scenes were added to the attraction in both 2011 and 2015, as Disney released new Star Wars films and expanded the universe. It was also in 2011 when Star Tours became Star Tours: The Adventure Continues.

Hyperspace Mountain was an immense hit from the beginning, with guests waiting more than three hours to experience the attraction. This writer even spent three and a half hours waiting in the rare California rain to ride. I loved it so much that, immediately after disembarking, I got back in line and waited another hour to do it again!

The attraction overlay was so popular that, in 2017, Disneyland Paris permanently changed its Space Mountain attraction to Hyperspace Mountain. Hong Kong Disneyland followed in the footsteps of Disneyland Paris and also permanently changed Space Mountain to Hyperspace Mountain due to the ride’s extreme popularity.

Season of the Force will take place at Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park from April 5 through June 2.

Are you excited to see Hyperspace Mountain return? What is your favorite version of Space Mountain?
