Universal Studios Hollywood has spent much of the holiday season operating at or near capacity. Guests have reported long waits, limited availability, and packed walkways as demand surged during one of the park’s busiest periods of the year.
The crowding reflects a broader trend across major U.S. theme parks. Disney has already pushed peak one-day ticket prices past $200 at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. Universal has also spread price increases across multiple categories rather than concentrating them at the ticket booth.

Those increases have arrived gradually. In September, Butterbeer prices at Universal Studios Hollywood rose from $9 to $9.50. Universal Orlando Resort has also hinted that wider pricing changes could follow in 2026, potentially alongside pass options tied to Epic Universe.
While food and tickets typically draw the most scrutiny, another cost has quietly become more prominent for guests arriving in Hollywood.
Parking Costs Lock In Ahead of Peak Demand
Universal Studios Hollywood raised its parking prices in September. Preferred parking increased to $80, Front Gate parking to $60, and general parking to $40.
The park, which opened in 1964 as a studio tour before evolving into a full theme park, initially did not clarify whether the changes were temporary.

Universal has since confirmed that the higher Preferred and Front Gate parking prices are permanent.
For many guests, the timing is notable. Parking costs rose as the park entered a high-demand period marked by frequent capacity limits and extended attraction wait times.
Reaction online followed quickly. “$80 to park LMAOOO,” wrote one X, formerly known as Twitter, user.
Another pointed to how sharply prices have climbed. “It was 25 just 4 years ago,” they wrote.
Others questioned whether driving remained practical. One guest called the increase “bloody outrageous,” while another said ride-share services now made more sense.

The parking changes have shifted how some visitors evaluate the overall cost of a trip, particularly those attending for a single day.
Passholders Gain an Advantage
As daily costs rise, annual passes have taken on added significance at Universal Studios Hollywood.
The Platinum Annual Pass is currently priced at $599, reduced from $609. It offers unlimited access, no blackout dates, three bonus months, and free parking.
That benefit also applies to Universal CityWalk Hollywood, where passholders can park without charge while visiting restaurants, the cinema, or retail locations.

The Gold Annual Pass, priced at $299, also includes free parking. Only the Silver Annual Pass and California Neighbor Pass exclude parking benefits.
For repeat visitors, the savings on parking alone can quickly offset the cost difference between single-day tickets and an annual pass.
However, growing passholder interest has coincided with crowding concerns. Universal Studios Hollywood has reached capacity multiple times this month.
Guests have reported particularly long waits for the Studio Tour during the holiday season.
