Mickey Mouse's presence is shrinking at Disney's Hollywood Studios as construction crews dismantle the Animation Courtyard area. The iconic Mickey Mouse ear sign that greeted guests outside various Disney Junior shows for years has been permanently removed, marking another step in the third Walt Disney World Resort theme park's ongoing transformation.
Mickey Mouse Ears Come Down
WDWNT confirmed on Tuesday that the illuminated Mickey Mouse ear sign positioned above the former Disney Junior show entrance has been removed. The distinctive neon-lit ears served as a landmark for the Animation Courtyard area, helping families locate Disney Junior Play and Dance! and other entertainment offerings for the youngest Disney Park guests.

Inside the Magic reported earlier Tuesday morning that Lightning Lane and standby wait time signs had already been stripped from the area. Hours later, the Mickey Mouse ears joined them in the demolition pile. Crews previously disconnected power to the neon lighting systems that kept the ears, Lightning Lane markers, and wait time displays glowing.
Animation Courtyard Gets Complete Overhaul
Walt Disney World Resort announced in 2025 that Animation Courtyard would close permanently to accommodate a reimagined area inspired by the Walt Disney Studios Lot in Burbank, California. The transformation brings back the Magic of Disney Animation, an immersive experience originally featured at Disney-MGM Studios.

The updated Magic of Disney Animation will include character meet-and-greets, a sketching class, and an Alice in Wonderland (1951)-themed play area. The new section will also revive the Sorcerer Mickey hat, bringing back the controversial icon to Disney's Hollywood Studios years after its removal from the park's central hub.
Two shows will operate in the reimagined space: “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” (which is currently open) and “Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!,” which debuted at Disney California Adventure Park in 2025.
Animation Courtyard, Star Wars Launch Bay, and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! all shut down in September 2025 to clear space for construction. Temporary walls were erected shortly after the closure, although their height allows Disney Park guests to glimpse the demolition progress from public walkways.
Today is the he last day for Star Wars Launch Bay at @DisneyParks @WaltDisneyWorld since today is the last day of operations for the current animation courtyard at #hollywoodstudios I was one of the first 100 or so guests on opening day so had to come close it out.

Removal Confirmed by Concept Art

The disappearance of the Mickey Mouse ear sign wasn't unexpected. Concept art for the Magic of Disney Animation released by Walt Disney World Resort showed the new area without the iconic ears, telegraphing their eventual removal. The artwork depicted a completely redesigned entrance that bore no resemblance to the original Disney Junior attraction facade.
Summer 2026 Opening Targeted

Walt Disney World Resort promises the Magic of Disney Animation will open during summer 2026, though no specific date has been announced. The timeline gives construction crews approximately six months to complete demolition and rebuild the Animation Courtyard area.
