Universal Epic Universe closes down Celestial Park, or at least a large portion of it, indicating that something new is on the horizon for 2026.

Universal Epic Universe Shutters Celestial Park Area With Hast: Something New Is on the Horizon
Universal Orlando Resort hasn’t wasted any time.
Less than a year after Epic Universe opened to the public, new evidence suggests Universal has already begun early expansion work inside its newest theme park — a move that’s turning heads across the theme park industry and catching the attention of Disney fans in particular.
From aerial photos to newly filed permits, the signs point to a major addition taking shape behind the scenes, with construction activity already visible inside the park.

The First Signs Appeared From the Sky
On December 14, 2025, well-known theme park observer @bioreconstruct shared aerial images revealing active land preparation at Epic Universe. The work is happening on a plot of land located between SUPER NINTENDO WORLD and Other Worlds Mercantile, directly across from Moonship Chocolates & Celestial Sweets in Celestial Park.

At this stage, the construction appears limited to dirt movement and land leveling — but seasoned theme park fans know that this is often how major expansions begin.

And for a park that only opened in May 2025, that timing is striking.

A Permit Confirms Something Big Is Planned
Shortly after the aerial photos surfaced, a construction permit added even more fuel to the speculation.
Filed for 1001 Epic Blvd, the permit lists:
-
150,000 square feet of new construction
-
“Site utilities and foundation work”
-
A project end date of May 7, 2026
That puts the completion timeline at less than one year after Epic Universe’s debut — an aggressive expansion schedule that signals how seriously Universal is investing in its newest park.
While some initially believed the permit was tied to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, the current construction location suggests it may instead apply to one of Epic Universe’s built-in expansion pads.

Universal Already Said This Was Coming
This development didn’t come entirely out of nowhere.
Earlier in 2025, Karen Irwin, President and COO of Universal Orlando Resort, openly acknowledged that Epic Universe’s future was already being planned:
“We’re already planning for the next thing at Epic.”
At the time, many assumed that “next thing” was still years away. Now, with construction walls appearing inside Celestial Park and groundwork actively underway, Universal appears to be moving much faster than expected.

Why the Location Matters
The expansion pad sits in one of the most strategic areas of the park, meaning it could connect to:
-
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, potentially setting the stage for future Nintendo-based additions
-
Celestial Park, which continues to evolve beyond a simple entry hub
Recent guest reports also mention new construction walls inside Celestial Park itself, sparking rumors of a large entertainment venue, nighttime spectacular hub, or immersive show experience.
If true, this would further position Epic Universe as a park designed to evolve continuously — a sharp contrast to how long major additions can take elsewhere in Central Florida.

Why This Has Disney Fans Watching Closely
Epic Universe was designed with expansion pads baked directly into its layout — and Universal is now proving it plans to use them.
For Disney fans, this rapid expansion highlights the increasingly competitive theme park landscape in Orlando. Universal isn’t just opening new parks; it’s evolving them almost immediately.
And if this early construction is any indication, Epic Universe’s story is only just beginning.
