Magic Kingdom Blocks Four Theme Park Areas From Guests

Construction barriers have taken over the Magic Kingdom, with temporary walls now surrounding attractions and spaces across four different theme park lands. The widespread transformation affects Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square, limiting guest access to multiple areas as Walt Disney World Resort continues to push forward with major renovation and expansion projects.

Tomorrowland Attraction Gets a Makeover

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin closed last summer for a comprehensive overhaul. Walt Disney Imagineers promised to modernize the interactive shooting attraction with improved laser blaster guns, updated ride vehicles, and additional interactive targets. The refreshed experience will feature reimagined and brand-new scenes, along with a new animatronic robot named Buddy, who teaches guests how to use their laser blasters.

Most renovation work has occurred inside the attraction until recently. Walt Disney World Resort filed a permit weeks ago to install new signage on the Tomorrowland ride, indicating crews would eventually replace the aging entrance sign. BlogMickey now reports construction walls surround Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, confirming Disney has begun exterior modifications.

Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin is scheduled to reopen sometime in spring 2026. Whether construction walls will remain up until reopening day remains unclear.

Fantasyland Character Meet-and-Greet Enclosed

Construction barriers now surround Pete's Silly Sideshow in the Storybook Circus section of Fantasyland, according to WDWNT. Walt Disney World Resort previously announced a refurbishment of the circus tent housing Magic Kingdom Park's primary Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, and Daisy Duck character meet-and-greets. The maintenance addresses visible damage—several Disney Park guests noticed torn and deteriorating sections of the tent structure.

Walt Disney World Resort hasn't provided an end date for the Pete's Silly Sideshow refurbishment. During the closure, Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Daisy Duck, and Donald Duck are greeting guests outdoors in the Storybook Circus area, rather than inside the tent.

Massive Construction Zone Spans Two Magic Kingdom Park Lands

The largest construction barrier installation at Magic Kingdom Park stretches from the Haunted Mansion in Liberty Square all the way to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland. Walt Disney Imagineers are simultaneously executing three separate projects in the area: Piston Peak National Park, Disney Villains land, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's year-long refurbishment.

Piston Peak National Park is the national park-themed Cars (2006) area coming to Frontierland. The Liberty Square Riverboat, Rivers of America, and Tom Sawyer Island permanently closed last summer to accommodate the new Frontierland section. The area will feature two attractions—a thrilling rally race and a family-friendly ride. Scaffolding and towering construction walls surround the drained Rivers of America, concealing the former Tom Sawyer Island from Magic Kingdom Park guests.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad's year-long refurbishment is nearing completion. The updated roller coaster will debut a reimagined Rainbow Caverns scene, complete track replacement, new ride vehicles, audio-animatronics, and refreshed set elements, including the queue area. Laughing Place reports that crews have recently extended the construction walls already surrounding the ride to cover even more of its entrance. These barriers connect to those associated with the Piston Peak National Park project.

Walt Disney World Resort hasn't announced grand opening dates for Piston Peak National Park or the Disney Villains land. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is set to reopen in spring 2026.
