Disney World Announces Theme Park Shutdown, Effective Next Week

Walt Disney World Resort is closing Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park again next week despite reopening this weekend from a multi-day weather-related shutdown. The water park will operate for just one day before entering a three-day closure as unseasonably cold temperatures continue to plague Central Florida.

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park shut down Monday, January 12, and will remain closed through Friday, January 16, due to freezing temperatures and frost warnings across Central Florida. Meteorologist Ryan McClure posted on X (formerly known as Twitter), warning residents about the severe cold.

With temperatures forecast to rise on Saturday, Walt Disney World Resort announced that Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will reopen January 17 with operating hours of 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The brief reopening will provide a single-day window for guests hoping to visit the water park before another closure takes effect.

On Thursday, Walt Disney World Resort updated its website, revealing Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will close again from Sunday, January 18, through Tuesday, January 20. The theme park is currently scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, January 21, operating from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park remains closed for seasonal refurbishment, unaffected by the weather.

Extended Refurbishment at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park

When Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park reopens February 15, 2026, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will immediately close for seasonal refurbishment. Construction permits indicate Walt Disney World Resort plans to rebuild the Humunga Kowabunga waterslide during the maintenance period, following a lawsuit involving a “painful wedgie” on the attraction.

The February closure will extend significantly longer than the current weather-related shutdowns, keeping Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park offline through late spring.

Summer Operations Confirmed

Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will reopen by May 26, 2026, when Cool Kid Summer season launches at Walt Disney World Resort. Both Central Florida Disney water parks are scheduled to operate simultaneously from May 26 through September 8, providing maximum capacity during peak vacation season.
