Construction crews are dismantling one of the last remaining vintage-style Disney Store locations in the world just weeks after its permanent closure. The nostalgic merchandise destination at Disneyland Paris Resort shut down on January 4, 2026, launching a transformation that will erase decades of retro Disney retail aesthetics in favor of modern franchise-based shopping.
Nostalgic Era Ends at Disney Village
The Disney Store in Disney Village—Disneyland Paris Resort's shopping, dining, and entertainment district—closed permanently on January 4, 2026. The location was one of the final examples of classic Disney Store design featuring oversized character statues, vibrant maximalist colors, and the theatrical aesthetics that defined Disney retail in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Disneyland Paris Resort announced the closure in the fall of 2025, confirming that the decades-old merchandise location would be replaced by Disney Wonders, a modernized franchise-based shop. The European Disney park released concept art showing sleek, contemporary design elements that bear little resemblance to the vintage store.
Rapid Demolition Begins
Just two days after the Disney Store's final operating day, crews began emptying the building. X (formerly known as Twitter) user @DLPRescueRanger documented the gutting process, sharing images of the partially emptied interior.

The photographs showed remaining merchandise, displays, and decorative elements being stripped from the space as workers prepared for complete reconstruction.

Two days later, Disney cast members erected construction barriers around the former merchandise location, blocking the public's view of the demolition activity. @DLPReport documented the barrier installation on X.

Construction walls couldn't hide every aspect of the demolition. Disneyland Paris Resort guests noticed that one of the large “Disney Store” signs, which had hung prominently on the building's exterior, had been removed within days of its closure.

“One of the Disney Store signs has been removed. 🛍️#DisneylandParis #DisneyVillage,” said @PixiedustDLP on X.

Late Summer Opening Targeted

Disney Wonders is scheduled to open in “late summer 2026,” though Disneyland Paris Resort hasn't committed to a specific date. The vague timeline raises questions about whether construction will be completed by August, September, or potentially slip into early fall.
