A piece of Disney retail history vanished on Sunday when one of the last remaining vintage-style Disney Stores closed its doors for good. The Walt Disney Company pulled the plug on the nostalgic shopping destination as part of sweeping changes transforming the Disneyland Paris Resort experience.
The End of an Era

Last November, Disneyland Paris Resort quietly announced through its mobile app that the Disney Store in Disney Village would be shutting down. The merchandise location was a rare surviving example of the maximalist retail design philosophy that defined Disney shopping in the 1990s and early 2000s, complete with oversized character statues that transported guests back to childhood mall visits.
The Disney Store in Disney Village welcomed its last customers on January 3, 2026. As of Sunday, January 4, the location was listed in the Disneyland Paris Resort app as “under refurbishment.” However, the European Disney destination has since clarified that the classic store will never reopen in its current form.
New Disney Wonders Store

Disneyland Paris Resort plans to replace the shuttered Disney Store with an entirely new concept called “Disney Wonders.” The resort previously released concept art showing what guests can expect from the updated retail experience.

Disney Wonders is described as a “modern franchise-based shop” that will occupy the former Disney Store footprint within the Disney Village shopping, dining, and entertainment district. Disneyland Paris Resort is targeting a summer 2026 opening, but hasn't committed to a specific date.
Massive Changes Sweeping Disneyland Paris Resort

The Disney Store closure represents just one part of an ambitious modernization campaign that is reshaping the entire Disneyland Paris Resort property. On March 29, 2026, Walt Disney Studios Park will undergo a complete rebrand, reopening as Disney Adventure World. The transformation includes the highly anticipated World of Frozen area, which also debuts on March 29. Walt Disney Imagineers have teased additional future expansions, including a land inspired by The Lion King (1994).

Disney Village itself is experiencing a retail revolution. Another icon of 1990s design, McDonald's, is serving its final guests. The old location remains open while construction crews build a new, modern restaurant nearby. The current retro-styled fast food location will close once its replacement opens sometime in “early 2026.”
