Scooby-Doo has always belonged at Universal Studios. The mystery-solving format, the spooky humor, the classic monsters — it all lines up perfectly. And yet, for years, the franchise remained on the sidelines while other IPs took over the spotlight.
That changes in 2026.

Universal Studios Hollywood has officially announced a brand-new Scooby-Doo attraction experience, marking one of the character’s most significant theme park returns in years. The attraction will debut as part of Universal Fan Fest Nights, an after-hours event focused on immersive fandom-driven experiences rather than traditional thrill rides or haunted attractions.
The new experience, Scooby-Doo x Universal Monsters: Mystery on the Backlot, places guests inside a full-scale mystery set on Universal’s legendary backlot. The premise is simple and effective: a movie shoot has gone wrong, Universal Monsters have taken over the set, and Scooby-Doo and the gang need help restoring order.
Guests don’t just watch the story unfold — they participate. The attraction is designed as an interactive walkthrough, featuring cinematic environments, character encounters, and moments that feel pulled directly from Scooby-Doo’s animated world. It’s meant to be fun, chaotic, and just spooky enough to feel authentic without pushing into horror territory.
This approach feels intentional. Universal isn’t trying to turn Scooby-Doo into something he’s not. Instead, the attraction leans into what the franchise has always done best: humor, mystery, and playful fear that works for all ages.
Scooby-Doo’s return also fits neatly into Universal’s broader Fan Fest Nights strategy. The event celebrates multiple fandoms across the park, creating a layered experience where guests can move from anime to fantasy to classic monsters in a single night.

In addition to Scooby-Doo, Fan Fest Nights will feature a ONE PIECE water stunt show inspired by productions overseas, a new Wizarding World of Harry Potter experience that sends guests into the Forbidden Forest, a Dungeons & Dragons adventure complete with original creatures, and special offerings throughout SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. Select attractions like Revenge of the Mummy, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, and Jurassic World – The Ride will also be available during the event.
Still, Scooby-Doo feels like the emotional centerpiece.
For longtime fans, this is more than a new attraction. It’s validation that Universal recognizes the staying power of its classic franchises. Scooby-Doo has survived for decades because the formula works, and this attraction finally gives the character a proper place inside the parks.
There’s also a sense that this could be just the beginning. Universal has been experimenting more with immersive storytelling and limited-time concepts, and Scooby-Doo provides a perfect testing ground. Strong guest response could easily lead to expanded experiences — or even something permanent down the line.
For now, Scooby-Doo’s return is official, substantial, and long overdue. Universal didn’t just bring him back — they built an experience around him that feels worthy of the wait.
