Universal's EPIC Universe has been open for almost a year, and the park still cannot figure out a consistent Early Park Admission program, which is absolutely ridiculous for guests paying premium prices for resort hotels specifically to get that one-hour head start.
This is now the THIRD major change to the attractions available during early entry, and the constant adjustments are making it basically impossible for anyone to plan their mornings or know what they're paying for when they book those expensive onsite hotels.
What's Open Early Right Now
Through March 31, Epic Universe offers eight attractions for Early Park Admission, though Universal loves to add that this list is “subject to change” which at this point just means “we're definitely going to change this again soon”:
- Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry
- Hiccup's Wing Gliders
- Viking Training Camp
- Dragon Racer's Rally
- Toothless Meet & Greet
- Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge
- Mine-Cart Madness
- Yoshi's Adventure
The current lineup focuses on Ministry of Magic, Isle of Berk, and SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. Dark Universe got completely shut out of early entry, which is interesting, considering those atmospheric attractions might actually benefit from being experienced with lower crowds and calmer energy.
What Got Cut From Early Entry
Starting in February, Universal removed four attractions that were previously available during early admission:
- Constellation Carousel
- Curse of the Werewolf
- Monsters Unchained
- Stardust Racers
Those attractions now open only at regular park opening time, which means if you were planning your rope drop strategy around riding any of them early, too bad, you need a completely different plan now.
The January Early Entry Disaster
In January, Universal announced that “select participating attractions” from Ministry of Magic, SUPER NINTENDO WORLD, and Isle of Berk would be available for early entry, but provided no specific details. This lack of information left resort guests unable to plan their mornings effectively.
The vague announcement created uncertainty from February 1 to 28. While Universal eventually clarified which rides would be open early, this information came too late for guests to finalize their plans.
Why This Keeps Happening
EPIC Universe's portal structure presents unique operational challenges compared to traditional theme parks, as each land operates independently and affects crowd flow during partial operations.
The Ministry of Magic is designed for immersive exploration, and opening it during early entry hours with lower crowds could enhance the experience, but it requires strong crowd control from Universal.
Isle of Berk, with its sprawling design, would benefit from early morning operations and lower crowd density, allowing for a better showcase of the land.
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD has been part of early entry since opening, providing Universal with valuable operational data that likely influenced their decision to expand early entry to other areas with similar crowd management needs.
The Early Entry Dining Schedule Is Also Complicated
Restaurant availability during early entry varies by location and day of the week in ways that require checking schedules rather than just assuming things are open. Celestial Park offers Starbucks, Star Sui Bao, Comet Dogs, and other spots with different hours on weekends versus weekdays.
Ministry of Magic has Café L'air De La Sirène and Bieraubeurre Cart operating on select days. Super Nintendo World locations like Toadstool Cafe and The Bubbly Barrel have different hours depending on what day you're visiting.
The complex dining schedule adds another planning layer on top of figuring out which attractions will actually be available during your specific early entry window.
What You Should Actually Do
If you booked a Universal resort hotel specifically for Early Park Admission benefits, you need to verify what's currently included within a few weeks of your actual visit instead of assuming the information you researched months ago is still accurate. Universal has proven they will change this program repeatedly without much warning.
Focus your early entry hour on Ministry of Magic, Isle of Berk, and Super Nintendo World since those are the portals currently included. Save Dark Universe and Celestial Park attractions for later in the day when the entire park is fully operational.
The March 31 Early Entry Deadline
The current lineup for Early Park Admission runs through March 31, indicating further changes are likely in spring. Universal has made multiple adjustments to this program recently, so guests planning visits after March should check for the latest details right before their trip.
The frequent changes can be frustrating for those planning vacations, but they reflect Universal's ongoing adjustments to operate a park with five distinct portal worlds. Whether a consistent program will emerge remains uncertain.
